Hi All

So the household ( partner and x2 dogs) is upping sticks and moving to Glasgow from London in very short notice 6 weeks to find a house (rent) and move

So any wegies on here who can offer some places to see and visit in my 3 years of living in the sticks. I’m originally from Edinburgh but moved away 20 years ago. But London to Glasgow is a massive change for us

One of my favourite cities, the people are lovely.

Whilst very much tongue-in-cheek, this pretty much nails it

This'll no doubt piss a few people off, but here is my recommended search area. There's something for all budgets within those areas, and like all places there are equally crappy areas intertwined. That's also not to say there aren't nice areas that i've not circled.

It totally depends what you need/want from a property/area. Schooling? Proximity to transport? Quick in/out from Glasgow? Outside space? 30-45mins in a car in rush hour should be possible from all. Public transport links are better for some than others. Schooling is quite a mix, so if your focus is on secondary education then you can further narrow it down from there.

So we will need to be commutable to Gartosh and we’re entirely open to detached semi detached with a budget of £1400.

We’re both moving from shift to 9-5 and are looking to enjoy the walks on a weekend.

Uddingston / Bothwell would be worth a look if proximity to Gartcosh is important, but I'm not familiar with the good or bad bits. Bearsden / Milngavie you could go up over the top quite quickly too. Not sure how far £1400 will go there though - I'm not familiar with the rental market.

Would be my pick from properties to rent within 10 miles of Gartcosh that fit the bill and budget. Giffnock is a desirable area with good schooling and its own little hub of shops, cafes and restaurants.

Commuting would be by car though, no direct public transport really.

If you want commutable by public transport I'd look at the suburbs of Stepps, Robroyston, or even Gartcosh itself though its not got much by way of amenities.

Have to agree OP, that'd definitely worth a look.

I wouldn't want to be living and working on opposite sides of Glasgow as the M8 can be a nightmare at rush hour. Perhaps unpopular but I would be looking around Lanarkshire rather than Glasgow. There are decent areas in most towns and your budget will go much further as well as reducing your commute time

This x100.

Also worth bearing in mind that if you're looking at the south side and plan on using the M77 as part of your commute, then be prepared for plenty of queueing north in the morning and south in the evening. Apart from on Christmas Day, has there ever NOT been a queue back from J1 Dumbreck Road to the M8 (and beyond) at tea-time?

It might well be a bit further out than is your ideal but Strathaven is a nice little town (unless it's changed, it certainly was when I worked there 7-8 years ago) surrounded by lots of walking areas.

Gartcosh is 5 mins along the motorway from me in cumbernauld, few nice areas here and worth taking into consideration as it’s good base to go either east or west.

Look for homes around smithstone,Blackwood,Balloch, westerwood and dullatur

Avoid carbrain,Kildrum and seafar

As someone said easy to go backroad to Gartcosh from Bearsden and milngavie.
You could also look at Kirkintilloch and Bishopbriggs.

Be hard pushed to find a decent house for the budget in most of those areas right now as they'll all be snapped up by those trying to get into school catchment areas.
