Everyone else finding flight prices are through the roof right now? Almost treble what they were even just a few months ago. Any reason for this?....even when the fuel prices was sky high didn't seem to be as much as they are now.

And yet there’s absolute bargains to be had

Half term flights for example to Orlando can be had for under £360p/p for a week.

Does almost £1,500 for a family of 4 for the flights alone really constitute "a bargain"?

The notion of holidaying in Florida makes me recoil in horror, so I've no idea how that compares to prior years.

£350 to fly an 8,000 mile round trip. Yes, a massive bargain.

Agreed that those Orlando flights are incredible.

However check out Europe for less reasonable pricing!

There are bargains out there. Wife and are going to Verona in October. Flying BA Club Europe, total cost of the flights for two is £460.00. I know this is outside school holidays but it still looks remarkably good value.

Even more of a bargain when you deduct the £100-odd of taxes slapped on to each adult ticket by the government's "because we can" department.

As someone that has just booked to go to Florida in a couple of months I have found they aren't quite that cheap.

The cheapest rates all exclude luggage and seat allocation and some budget airlines are charging £70 each way for a bag so the £350 very quickly gets close to doubling which I still this is a fair price for the distances involved.

Heres an example from BA

Fare
£460.00

Air Passenger Duty - United Kingdom
£87.00

Passenger Service Charge - United Kingdom
£18.77

Passenger Civil Aviation Security Service Fee - USA
£4.30

International Transportation Tax - USA
£16.40

International Transportation Tax - USA
£16.40

Animal & Plant Health User Fee (Aphis) - USA
£3.00

Immigration User Fee - USA
£5.40

Customs User Fee - USA
£5.10

Passenger Facility Charge -
£3.50

Carrier imposed charge
£240.00

Total
£859.87

We are finding anything flying for business (ie for a work trip, and therefore generally not over a weekend, rather than another pointless debate over what part of the cabin is best) is mad pricing and far more than pre covid. The US in particular remains stubbornly high.

KLM from anywhere in UK to amsterdam seems very expensive at the moment, on the other hand Teesside to Faro in 2 weeks was 90 GBP per person when I booked that a few months back.

RyanAir to Rome just as the kids go back in September for two was almost £450. Ok, that included speedy boarding and whatnot but I found that pretty steep. Add in hotels and it became a very expensive few days away.

Yesterday, I booked weekend return flights on Lufthansa from Manchester to Munich in October - £160

I wouldn't call that expensive.

Yes we're being fleeced. These companies are just clawing back money lost during covid. Jet2 in particular seem to be milking it ... end of Sept, Leeds to Malaga, £500 pp + bags (well bike boxes in my case), so thats £1200. Manchester to Innsbruck early March, £440 ... plus snowboard carriage , £620censored

Have chosen options with other airlines from other airports and paid less than half! I'd rather travel an hour or two further ... LBA is total shyte anywaybiggrin

We did Santander the other weekend - out Friday, back Sunday. £48 / head.

Yes it was with Ryan air, no luggage, or speedy boarding or seat allocation.

But for bog standard, no frills transport at a time & date that suited us it was a pretty decent price.

Same day flights have always been pricey. It's interesting a year back BA were far more expensive than KLM in/out of AMS. In the last few months that seems to have reversed.

A bargain? rofl Remarkably good value? rofl

That has to be one of the funniest PH powerfully built Director posts in months!

I've just checked, and you could fly BA economy class return to Verona in October for two for £216, or £266 if you feel the need to check a bag.

I've got Dragonpass lounge access included with my bank account to cover the Gatwick end and it seems that there are currently no lounges at all at the Verona end because of airport renovation work, so what exactly are you getting for your extra £200+ that couldn't be absolutely crushed by an amazing dinner in Verona when you get there?
