Winter Honeymoon - Scandi?
Discussion
Morning all,
Looking around for ideas on a winter honeymoon.
Neither of us are overly keen on flying long haul, and my fiancee is a redhead and the palest person ever. A photo with the flash enabled gives her sun burn So we've never really done sunny breaks.
With that in mind I've been looking into the various Scandinavian options which all follow a similar theme. Cosy cabin, sauna, hot tub, northern lights and so on.
Does anyone have any experience in doing something similar?
Cheers.

Hi
I took my wife to Finland in January for her 40th birthday (she thought she was going on a cruise..)
Went to a hotel just below the Arctic Circle and had a great time (once she got over the shock of being met at the airport by someone laden with knives, GPS etc :-) )
Hotel was nearly empty, and the owner let us go out on his snowmobile, across a frozen lake, we went Husky sledding, built an igloo, tried the sauna etc.
We also rented a car and drove to Rovaniemi (driving on ice covered roads with studded tyres) - Santa Claus land, Viking museum etc.
Only downside was that it was only light between 10am and 3pm
You need to be the more adventurous type, prepared to do different things from the norm, but the Scandinavians do know how to have fun.

You want something that will leave you with memories for life, so make it special and do something you wouldn't normally think to do. Sack off the relaxing in a cabin with a log burner and get a bit active. I highly recommend the beginner courses from this bunch - you can go to them never having seen snow before and they will have you cross country skiing in a day, then off pulling a pulk and digging a snow hole to sleep the night in. That'll leave you with memories you will never forget. And of course you could tack on some relaxing days at the end.

Run by a British lady and a Norwegian chap who are some of the most capable winter explorers of our time - she's been to both poles many times and crossed Greenland (harder than the poles) with groups many times too. Trips with them you get loads of stories about their adventures... it's easy to catch the bug and before you know it your 5 year anniversary you're literaly on the top of the world...
