Dog friendly holiday with 1 days travel from SE UK
Discussion
I've done nothing about a summer holiday. We realistical have one week in August that is do able.
The criteria is that it has to be dog friendly, and I'll have my boys (8 & 11) with me and the Mrs. Ideally we will be by a beach as that will keep the kids quiet for an impressive amount of time.
It would be nice if there were outdoorsy things to do as well due to having the dog.
Currently looking at Brittany but struggling to find anything.
All suggestions welcome!

Someone will be along who can tell you more details about the post Brexit travel situation for dogs
I've looked into it superficially, and the costs for vaccination and certification in re rabies seem to be prohibitive.
A visit to a vet on the French side before return is required too. I believe they are pretty efficient in Calais.
Before Brexit there was a pet passport system which, whilst not cheap, was much more easy to navigate.
I like the priority order in your post

We brought a puppy over to Spain last October. The dog has to have a rabies jab 3 weeks before travelling, a health certificate within a week of travelling. You will also need a tapeworm tablet for France, but not needed for Spain.
I think the health cert was around £140, we now have a Spanish dog passport which cost €45.

That sounds reasonable comapred with the estimates I found - did the certificate include the vaccination?I think the health cert was around £140, we now have a Spanish dog passport which cost €45.
The pet passport situation is not much harder/more complex than it was before brexit but what I would say is get your skates on as the dog will need to have his rabies jab three clear weeks before returning to the UK.
In terms of location, Brittany would be a good shout and the Dordogne is a days drive from SE England.
If you want a beach, maybe look at Ile de Re. This is a small, unpretentious family and dog friendly hotel that we've stayed in many times https://www.levieuxgreement.com/

I don't think the skates are going to help. I guess a trip abroad is off the cards. It's not a terrible outcome though, so we will look for something in the UK instead. In terms of location, Brittany would be a good shout and the Dordogne is a days drive from SE England.

The beaches in Northumberland are amazing. The majority of pubs, cafes and restaurants are dog friendly. See if you can get a cottage or camp site which can take dogs.
That's what I was going to suggest. I can't think of a better place.
Endless empty beaches, all the pubs are dog friendly as are most of the Airbnb's
Just crossing your fingers for the weather.

Cheers. So minimum £500 a trip for two dogs
Well, no. The rabies jab is valid for three years.xstian said:

No, vaccination was separate.RicksAlfas said:

West Coast of Scotland? I own these two places and we accept pets. Both places have private access to the 1.5 mile pebble beach on the sea loch. Hot tubs and great driving roads all around. Direct bookings welcome for PH rate :-) The criteria is that it has to be dog friendly, and I'll have my boys (8 & 11) with me and the Mrs. Ideally we will be by a beach as that will keep the kids quiet for an impressive amount of time.
