Renting accomodation sites for Spain or Portugal
Discussion
VRBO and AirBnB seem the most used.
Note these sites charge up to 15% portal fees so if you can work out which local management company runs a particular property you can save hundreds by booking direct.
Eg western Algarve - https://www.destination-algarve.com/

We list our Algarve apartment on Airbnb, Tripadvisor and VRBO. We also have our own website, but direct guests to the booking sites as we find it less hassle to taking bookings direct. www.neptuno6benagil.com Once someone has stayed with us we do deal direct for future bookings if they so wish. Most of the bookings are through Airbnb and most come from continental Europe, the USA and Canada.
You’re quite local to us - we’re in Lagos.
I have also done my own website but I’ve no idea if it’s ever resulted in a booking. It gets traffic - we’re on google maps etc which seems to drive most of the hits but I have no real idea what I’m doing! There’s links on every page directing people to our managers Destination Algarve site which has the prices and booking calendar.
I’m also on instagram and Facebook and do get the odd enquiry from there but I just fire those off to the managers.
Destination Algarve advertise all their managed properties on their site and it’s all then linked in what seems to be close to real time with calendar etc to VRBO, Airbnb etc. That then uses their pricing structure plus the added fees of whatever portal it’s advertised on. We were on booking.com at one point but aren’t on there now - they vary which portals they advertise on but I don’t know why.
A peak season week would save several hundred euros going direct, potentially over a grand on a long booking but I think the majority of bookings come from Airbnb as most of the reviews I find are from there. We’re not on simplyowners and I think the old owners direct was bought out by Airbnb?
Only caveat would be to do your research if you’re thinking of booking from a website or Facebook or similar as there are scam sites out there from what I’ve read on the trip advisor forums - I think that’s why most bookings are via the big names despite the extra cost.
