Algarve in late September
Discussion
Long story short. Booked flights to Portugal in late September starting arriving Lisbon and then heading to Faro before returning direct from Faro to UK (3 nights in Lisbon, 4 nights in Lagos). The Lagos bit has hit the buffers but we will still fly to Faro area for four nights so we're looking for recommendations for somewhere to base ourselves for the 4 nights. Should we look around Faro or head towards Lagos as originally planned. Open to any suggestions as while I'm familiar with Portugal north of Lisbon I know nothing about the Algarve,
Any advice welcome. BTW. the original plan was to do a bit of cycling/hiking so we're not focussed on beaches etc.

I went in early/Mid Sept in 2021 after covid travel rules cancelled my Cancun trip and would just say avoid Albufeira at all costs. I was there 7 days and struggled to find things to do, and it mostly caters to chavvy British expats who sit in the bars in the old town with Sky Sports blasting out all day while wearing whichever premier league team top they support. Oh and full of drug dealers at night.
Great cycling in the hills behind Lagos, near the portmao circuit

Well I was going to be cycling (with others)and my wife hiking; she falls off bikes too often . I think the focus as it's just the two of us will be hiking. Thanks for the link though, I might just sneek a ride in anyway.https://epicroadrides.com/cycling-blog/lagos-cycli...

Just thought I'd wrap this thread by saying the suggestion of Tavira was spot on. Just back from 4 nights there with temperatures of 27-29C, friendly locals and just found it so easy to chill and wind down. Had our own apartment 50m from the quayside with short walks to very good and varied restaurants. Did a bit of hiking (not as much as I thought owing to the heat) and took the ferry over to Tavira island every day just to spend a couple of hours on a deserted beach.
