In my continual hunt for interesting trips to do with Porsches I'm pondering Iceland.

Getting there seems quite straightforward via a three day ferry from Denmark and aside from food and drink being fairly pricey it looks a stunning place to spend a week exploring.

Immediate wish is to take the 911 but realistically the Cayenne would be the better option.

Has anyone done similar? All comments received with great interest biggrin

Iceland is awesome (but expensive when you are there)

The roads are through incredible scenery not for speed though.

There's plenty to see for 3-4 days trip though

I haven’t done it because I couldn’t get the ferry dates to align with the leave I’ve had over the last few years but it has been my intention to do it one day so I’ll follow your thread with interest.

I would probably take the Cayenne and make sure you have good windscreen cover. The roads in Iceland are great but they do get a bit churned up by the weather and every time I’ve driven there in the past I’ve winced as bits of gravel clatter off the front of the hire car. I’ve always really enjoyed driving in the country. People always comment on how expensive Iceland is and they’re not wrong but these days it’s not so outrageous compared to places like the US. Certainly worth it for the scenery and utterly bonkers people.

The cayenne would be the best I guess, the good roads are fine, but your gps will take you over some roads that aren't exactly roads, as i found going up a gravel mountain path and past snow and ice -in a hyundai i10...

Having spent quite a few weeks there on business and holidays I wouldn’t be taking such a car for travelling around. Reykjavik centre is ok but the rest of the road infrastructure is appalling with pot holes, loose gravely tarmac and stones. The bodywork will be chipped to hell and your suspension will be knackered. Only my opinion of course and you may be a better driver than me. I would spend most of the travelling worrying about the car.
Great place to visit though and I absolutely loved it.

Brave man. Great country. Far more sensible renting something with 44” tyres when you’re there. But where’s the fun in that?…

Great place to visit and not as expensive as it once was. I’d hire a car though. The Primary roads particularly the ring road are excellent but off those is variable.

I went in January; hired a car and drove for a week, mostly south coast. Fabulous views, great hotels and good food. Highly recommended.
My top tip is take a bottle of whisky in your luggage ( assuming you drink and like whisky. Other alcohol is available )

Not that brave and not quite 44" but the Cayenne should be fairly suitable biggrin

For me part of the fun is taking your own car somewhere, plus it's easily to take a reasonable amount of booze with you laugh

Good work!At least one full sized spare may be worth considering.Enjoy your trip and report back.Don’t take too much beer, the Güll beer is very drinkable.

As well as thinking about stone damage, also factor in the wind. It can be pretty brutal and when we went (and hired a car) we were told where possible to park into the wind, less chance of having a door ripped off that way

And don’t forget driving off road in Iceland is illegal and comes with heavy fines.

They also don't like you pulling off to the side of the road and parking on the verges.

We used an app that told you which roads were open etc, I think it's Safetravel.is or something like that

I’ve been looking in to this too, though I was going to take the e-class. Now your Cayenne looks awesome I may have to source on and keep it as a second car.

I’ve the same opinion as you, taking your own car places. Next year for me will be the ferry to Bilbao, then head through Spain and Portugal.
