I posed this question in General Gassing last week, but didn't get a single reply, so I'm hoping that this gets a better response in the travel section.

My usual go to car hire firm is Alamo when I’m in the States but on my last trip to Los Angeles I was disappointed with the available choice of cars at LAX. Also, most cars were quite old as well as having leggy mileages. Presumably this is still a hangover from the car supply shortage caused by covid.

I’m off to New York in next month, and with that in mind, what are people’s recent experiences with car hire firms at JFK?

All the main firms have a presence, and I’d be interested to hear which ones have a wider choice of newer cars.

Thanks.

I always avoid JFK collections for this very reason and tend to use Dollar or Hertz just off/on South End Avenue (DT Financial District) as I normally stay just across Brookfield Place in the Conrad.

Alternatively I have also used Avis many many time on E11th and broadway just south of Union Sq.

Thanks, that's an interesting perspective.

I have hired cars from the Manhattan locations before (quite a few years ago), but I had assumed that the JFK car hire centre would have a wider & larger selection, due to it being a major hub location.

Supply is improving. Cars are getting slightly younger and mileage slightly lower, but nothing like it was in 2019 yet, and next year will be much the same.
