A friends looking to take her 11yr old daughter away for a week - budget around £1,200 at the end of July - not too far (Spain/France etc) and flying from Cardiff/Bristol ideally. I'm at a bit of a loss on where to suggest.

To be honest, you have to start with working out where is cheap.

For example, a flight to Bezier in the south of France is dirt cheap on the Irish airline (but French ATC strikes for the whole of July tend to rule that out) and Kos seems to be cheap for some reason, compared with other Greek islands (never been so can't comment).

Mallorca is nice, around Cala d'Or with lots of little beaches to visit.

Turkey seems popular.

Much depends on what she likes to do.

If car hire is part of the equation then the Canary Islands tend to be the cheapest no-hassle option but regrettably the flights there have spiralled into stupid territory, compared to last year.

Cardiff means relying on Vueling and while I have had no issues in the past, there seems to be a lot of complaints and the prices (even in Euros) are not the bargains they used to be....but parking is cheaper.

Rent a nice cottage near a nice beach in the UK can be a great break/base in summer.

Friend should have a look at Jet2 - good value, low hassle flight/accommodation deals.

Barcelona can be a really good option because it has a lot of things to do and close to the beach. We used to go to Holland a lot too which is a nice relaxing option.

Istria. EasyJet fly from brizzle to Pula direct, 2hr20 flight time. Around pula are a lot of glamping type family resorts, similarly Mon perin up the coast towards rovinj. No beaches but crystal clear waters, lots to do, nice relaxed atmosphere and very good value.

I think Cardiff to split is also direct if a larger city is required.
