Hi - does anyone have any recent experience of holidaying in the Greek Islands (Crete specifically) and just finding somewhere to stay when you get there?

We used to do this 30 years ago and had zero problems, but times (and my tolerance levels) have changed significantly since then.

We've got a holiday planned / booked for September / October this year, but there's one part of it that I've left open. We need to get from Loutro on the South coast to Kato Zakros on the East coast. We leave Loutro on the Friday, and we're due in Kato Zakros on the Sunday (not ideal as buses at the weekend are less frequent). The goal is to use public transport unless we're in a bind. I've figured out the route (more or less) but am reluctant to book accommodation as I'd like to "go with the flow" and stop travelling when we've had enough for that day.

Are we going to come unstuck, or will we be fine?

We were in Crete three weeks ago and saw lots of flats / rooms to let.

I doubt you'll have much difficulty finding accommodation around that time of the year

Was in Crete a few weeks ago and would have thought you would have no problem getting accommodation particularly outside July and August.
The buses were really good too- we went along the north coast and on the Sunday the buses didn’t seem to be any different (Rethymno to Heraklion).
