Looking at winter flights to far east. These two are giving me best flight times for my needs. Emirates slightly cheaper, but Qatar gives shortest change over. So not much in it.
Flew with Emirates earlier this year and not overly impressed (service, late coming round with drinks after takeoff, food mediocre etc ) is Qatar any better?
Flying cattle class.

I have flown both a few times, all flights to Bangkok.

Emirates wins hands down as the Qatar Bangkok-Doha flights are rammed with Indians.I am no way a racist but they always want to swap seats, aregenerally disruptive and have very few manners.
Don’t get me started talking about the cleanliness of the toilets on that leg either.

Agreed. That Doha BKK leg was the worst I've ever done in terms of pure filth. It was like the plane stopped at a beduin camp and loaded up extra full. One guy was so I'll we called him Ebola Man, jokingly. We caught the worst cold we'd ever had and could not shake it for two weeks.

Now I know it wasn't a one off!

I ended up booking Qatar last night as prices dropped, and as they say didn’t want to miss the boat.
Doing KL leg out of Doha and Phuket return so fingers crossed. But at least it’s the nice A380 Heathrow to Doha and back.

Yep still have masks, will report back in 9 months time lol!
Since both Doha and Dubai are both hubs linking east and west I am sure you get all sorts on both carriers!
It was certainly a mixed bunch out of Birmingham to Dubai this year and you get dirty gits on all airlines!
But as said I wasn’t impressed with emirates either!
Use to love flying Thai but they are way to expensive now and got rid of their A380s

I'm trying Eva Air PE this time (BKK and back) - 1st direct flight ever!

I just booked with Qatar in business from Oslo returning to Heathrow for April. Tbh it’s also a bit of a tier point run. The Heathrow direct fares are staying stubbornly high for BKK still aren’t they?!

Dunno - I'd never consider BA for that unless using my miles, and I don't have enough for bkk return. Last time I used Finnair BC and it was the best BC so far (via Helsinki), but the price has almost doubled since I paid last time in 2019 (and deffered until 22). I've paid Eva the same for PE on 2023 as I paid Finnair for BC in 2019

Sorry I worded that badly or just plain incorrectly actually. BA haven’t restarted BKK yet. I meant I’m flying OSL-DOH-BKK to take advantage of the ex EU fare and then coming back BKK-DOH-LHR without pissing around in Oslo.

I got my BC fare with Finnair from Heathrow last year for £1600, this was a bit more than that but nothing outrageous. Still stings compared to the pre pandemic bargains that were occasionally available for the far east.

I liked Finnair and I loved Helsinki airport and the lounge there, I wasn’t massively keen on their repeated schedule changes that cost me a day in Thailand but hey ho.

Fares to far east are still high from last year, use to enjoy multi city tickets for around £500/600. Last year paid £850 each for Bhx to Kul then Hkt to Lhr going out Jan23, flying out of Lhr was more expensive.
This year paid about the same for similar schedule but departing LHR Jan24.
Could have saved about £100 flying out of BHX but not sure if we will be moved to different part of country by then so LHR safer bet
Could have got even cheaper flights if same departing and returning airport but above suits travel plans and no waisting time and night in hotel returning to entry point.

Just to add I don’t do crazy layovers 2 hours max and I like to leave during the daytime and arrive during the daytime and for coming home it’s usually an evening flight to get back to UK early morning which are usually the expensive flights.
