Hi all, I've done a bit of research but there isn't much conclusive guidance.

Some stuff says USD is preferred, however I suspect this may be outdated info. I don't mind taking out some USD, as I'll be able to spend any left over cash when I go there with work later in the year.

Kenyan Shilling - local currency, easiest to withdraw from an atm in the airport on arrival?

Gbp - some stuff say the pound is taken, obviously don't mind taking a bit of this!

Going for 12 days, obviously need cash for some meals and tipping and possibly a hot air balloon ride. 7 day safari, 4 days in mombasa.

Would appreciate any insight!!

Convert to KES and use that, so much simpler else you start to convert in your head or calculate and things might appear cheaper. Nairobi is generally an expensive place I find nowadays.

Get yourself a Safaricom SIM when you arrive and an mpesa mobile money account.

You can top up the mpesa account online if you need to

Perfect for tips and sundaries. I even paid park fees with it.

Thanks for info. I guess many places in Nairobi/Mombasa will take card these days anyway?

I live and work in Kenya 6 months of the year so pretty well versed.

If you can get a safaricom SIM and pop it in your phone to use Mpesa it's a great option. Everywhere takes it to pay for anything.

Alternativly withdraw cash from an ATM on your debit card. Any bank such as Stanbic, KCB or equity and you'll get better than 170ksh to the £ at present which beats anything you'll get here.

The Kenyan shilling is very weak at present so you'll feel well off.

Don't bother with dollars or UK cash it's disrespectful to not use the local currency.

What are your plans whilst there?

If you need and info let me know.

Jambo!
