Hi all

Where’s best to stop off in Calais for wine these days?

I’m the oldish days eastenders and cheers were good but they’ve gone now.

Thanks

Assuming you’re intending to bring back to the UK, the limit is 24 bottles - so I’d suggest any of the usual supermarket chains would do the job.

For drinkable €5 Bordeaux, Carrefour at Eurocité

For better quality wines, Calais Vins; they will sign you up for the tax reclaim scheme if you don’t already have that. Just scan into the machine at the tunnel terminal and the refund comes through in a few days

There’s also now a Philippe Olivier cheese shop at Calais Vins, well worth a visit

There’s also a decent selection at Terre de Boissons at EuroCité, lower floor near the restaurants, not the very cheapest but worth a look if you’re doing Carrefour

That link is a bit out of date. Since then we’ve had Brexit.

Indeed that leaflet is from 2016, since then we've got the sunlit uplands......

Nope- to stock up on the way down into Europe. Wouldn’t want more than 24 bottles anyway though.

I always found that to be good for beers and spirits but there used to be better places for wines. This was best part of 20 years ago though!

Seconded……have been buying from Guy for over 10 years and have had many excellent wines at every price point.
I wouldn’t let the limit bother you too much. The border people aren’t resourced for it and couldn’t care less.

Oops, new limit is indeed 18 litres ( link ). As noted, they haven't been counting when I've crossed from Coquelles (a dozen times this year)
