Pubs in Buenos Aries

I'm lucky enough to be in Buenos Aries for a number of weeks for work and am looking for a decent drinking den that is fun and reasonably busy in central, Palermo is a bit of a trek out, I'm about 500m east of the Obelisk so very central to the city.
Does anyone have any decent experience of the city, not that keen on sitting in a restaurant, eating half a cow and just some accompanying beers.
I am an experienced expat, living in Jakarta normally, but I can't seem to find anywhere that is full of lots of people just living the pub life.

My brother has lived in Argentina for nearly 20 years and suggests Florería Atlántica, a few blocks from the Obelisk (didn’t give an address). Excellent speakeasy style bar he says.
