Somewhere warm in October - where stuff is still open
Discussion
Currently in debate with the g/f whether we go on holiday for a week in October. She's dubious, because we went to Sardinia around the same time last year, and pretty much everything was closed because it was "out of season".
Needs to be warm (at least low 20s) and probably a max of 4 hour flight time.
We've done a quick search and found Gran Canaria / Kos but not sure whether there will be stuff to do there (and neither of us are that excited about those two places anyway).
Can't really do other times - we're already on holiday early July and early September and don't really want to be paying a premium for school holidays.
Any ideas?

We have been to Cyprus late September early October many times, its definitely the best time to go. The weather is perfect, warm enough to eat outside every evening. Last year we stayed here https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/destinations/...
Its a fabulous hotel, highly recommended. Paphos is alive, nothing shuts down.

We went to Lisbon last October and the weather was mid 20s - 1st time visit and loved it with so much to see and do and top notch food and drink options.
Booked a hotel with a rooftop pool, beaches are within each reach of the City, so you can combine a sun holiday with the benefits of a vibrant City.

My partner is pushing for us to do Porto in October this year.Booked a hotel with a rooftop pool, beaches are within each reach of the City, so you can combine a sun holiday with the benefits of a vibrant City.
I've done Lisbon before and loved it, head over to Sintra for a morning, visit Belem, etc etc. Cascais beach is one of the main ones from the city of I recall?

Indeed it is - a short train journey from Lisbon and very quiet and clean as far as beaches go.I've done Lisbon before and loved it, head over to Sintra for a morning, visit Belem, etc etc. Cascais beach is one of the main ones from the city of I recall?
The Spanish Costa's are still warm that time of year. My Dad has had a place in the Valencia region close to Alicante for 20 years. We went out at the end of October last year, it was beach weather throughout and everything was open. You can never guarantee the weather though-the weather was pretty poor in the med during May but it's the exception rather than the rule.
One of the Canaries otherwise, I like Fuetaventura out of them all.

Crete. Most stuff is open until the end of October (and Heraklion, Chania and Rethymno are open all year round), sea is very warm and weather generally mid 20’s.
If you stay somewhere like Rethymno town there is great beaches, lots to see and do and the old town at night is superb.
Fly into either Chania or Heraklion.

We've done Greece a couple of times but the weather isn't guaranteed to by warm (we were always lucky). Both times at an all inclusive Ikos resort, so no idea it anything to else was open really.
IKOS,You're ruined once you've stopped at an Ikos. I see they have a 10% off offer....
The only resort I've ever found myself man-mathetting staying for six months!

We’re off to Madeira in October for the first time. We’ve had lots of positive comments from friends and family so fingers crossed.
Think it was October we went to Madeira. Warm and sunny but a nice see breeze so not too hot. Not much sea access or beaches if that's your thing, we stayed at a hotel that had its own access and swam every day. Zarco said:

Depends where in Greece- there’s 500miles between Corfu and Crete. Cretes the most southerly of the accessible Greek Islands so tends to have the best weather. I was there last October and it was high 20’s which is fairly normal, particularly the beginning of the month.I know it’s a personal choice but the last place I’d go AI is Greece. I go a couple of times a year and the eating out experience is exceptional and cheap.
I'd repeat the recommendation for Madeira, it's a lovely place with plenty to do.
Cap Verde has lovely weather but there's nothing there really; ideal for a winter sun lazy beach or pool holiday.
Mainland Portugal can still be warm that time of year, and there's plenty to do in the major cities.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.
Madeira is a good choice - neither of us has been there, and it's somewhere I've been tempted by a few times. Lisbon I've done before, and Dubai isn't tempting to either of us.
Greece / Cyprus is tempting too - pretty sure I've done Crete once in the past but would like to do Greece.
