The Black Forest
Discussion
Planning a road trip with my 11 year old daughter. She has a sort of fascination with the Black Forest as a land of fairy tales and chocolate cake. I don't really know much about it other than having driven and rode through it and thinking it was nice. I imagine we will do a bit of hiking and chocolate cake but would be keen to hear from people who know the area of anything specific that is worth seeing and doing.
It is a beautiful area - went many years ago with my family and still remember the trip now!
Everyone was very friendly and welcoming and everywhere was very clean, green and well kept.
Check out Rudesheim as a location to visit/stay, particularly the Drosselgasse - a fairytale cobbled street with lots of cafes, shops and restaurants.
We stayed at Hotel Lindenwirt - in a wine barrel! There are 5 or 6 big wooden wine barrels side by side - quite surreal! They remind me a little of the style of the town in Disneys beauty and the beast cartoon - might appeal to an 11 year old?
I am sure you will enjoy your visit wherever you stay - and enjoy the Schwarzwaldekirschtort! (Sp?) 😁

Been holidaying there since I was a kid - and even now, we make a stop off for a couple of days on the way down to holidays further south.
Message me if you want a few more details - but if you want a hotel that does fantastic food, up one of the worlds best roads - you can't go wrong with http://kurzurlaub-schwarzwald.com/ Martin, Renate and Julia (who speak English) are fantastic - and he's that good a chef, he's done the menu for the German airline.
Message me if you want more info (where to visit, where to eat, where to swim etc)

Hopefully someone else can post the full details, but there's a fabulous summer (maybe all year round) "Toboggan" run close(ish) to Lake Titisee. You take a ski-lift up the mountain, and then come down on a track in a little cart with a brake. It's really good fun. I can't remember what it's called, otherwise I'd post the name. I found it after someone on here mentioned it on another thread
We have stayed at Gasthof Steinwald just outside Freudenstadt a couple of times, totally recommend.
As has been said, the sommerrodelbahn are great fun and there are a fair few of them. Also for kids, Europa Park and Tripsdrill are both excellent. Oh and the public pools in Germany are much better than the UK, check out Panorama-Bad Freudenstadt and Fildorado near Filderstadt.
Edited as I forgot Steinwasen Park.
