Planning a trip in September.
At least 2 locations, food and drink oriented.
No doubt Beaune and, maybe, Lyon but we would like to stop over for a few days at Epernay (or similar) on the way down. We have been before and it was a bit crap, most likely our fault as there was zero prep and we booked into a Travel Lodge type hotel between lunch and dinner so most places were shut.
Anyway, would like to stay somewhere decent, central, where the hotel might arrange some tours of the champagne houses in town.
Is this possible, Google has shown bugger all and I know that there is good experience on PH.
Ta!

We stayed in Reims and booked a champagne tour , it was just a couple of mini buses from Reims that take you on a tour of a few of the champagne houses , we did 3 if I remember correctly . It was quite an enjoyable day and we didn’t need to worry about driving .
I can’t remember the name of the tour operator but it was something with the word bubbles in , you meet them outside the train station and obviously they bring you back .
There’s a bit more to do in Reims on a night to be honest .

We stayed here and would happily recommend A. Bergère Champagne

However we went as part of a longer European trip but our stay coincided with a UK bank holiday weekend and it just felt like London on tour and we felt we wouldn’t be back in a rush.
Germany on the other hand we found their wine regions to be superb and have been back multiple times (Mosël and Rhine).

A few years ago, we stayed at the Villa Eugene which was a nice small hotel and did a tour of the Mercier champagne house, due to some miscommunication they had poured out 40 glasses of champagne for the end of the tour, though there were only four of us on it, the rest of the day is a bit hazy.....
Bit further from Epenay than you might like, but we stayed here and enjoyed it
