First time going to Bali and only stopping for 2 nights as it’s just a stop over on a long haul flight. Looking at hotels within 30 mins of the airport as we’re not there for very long and arrive quite late on the first night (thinking Seminyak?)

One that fits the bill so far is the Legian seminyak, not cheap but we can get a 4pm check out with amex platinum and is a key selling point given we have a midnight flight.

Has anyone been recently and can recommend somewhere up to £400 a night (in early December - I’m aware it’s monsoon season).

I have a house in Bali, you won't like my opinion. I wouldn't recommend getting out of a taxi within 30 minutes of the airport, driive furher west, at your budget stay any where, you will just be in a western hotel, with no local contact or culture.
Double your travel time, divide your budget by 4 and enjoy a real Bali experience.

Berw is right but if you do want to stay near the airport just pick any random five star resort along the coastline you’re looking at. That area is Aussie Benidorm and if you’ve got to be there you may as well stay somewhere nice.

£400 per night?!! Are there hotels in Bali that cost that much?

Personally I would get a cab up to Ubud and stay there. It’s much nicer, much more peaceful and there are some nice bars and restaurants around there. A fantastic hotel there wouldn’t cost more than £200 per night and a decent one about half that. Taxis are easily arranged to and from. Watch out for the cab drivers at the airport, they can be piss taking bds, agree a price and don’t budge on it.

Thanks both, fully respect your opinions and if this was a holiday to Bali I would 100% travel further afield and get the most out of a trip to Bali. However, as this is purely a stopover to make the journey significantly cheaper and to avoid a 14 hour flight I’m looking for something convenient (no more than 30 mins from the airport) and we will likely not leave the hotel or resort given the short time we have. Appreciate we also will pay a premium but given the saving of the flights we’re not so fussed and happy to pay up to £400 a night but will gladly pay less!

Fair enough.

It’s not necessarily an expensive area around the airport so you shouldn’t need to pay a premium. We stayed somewhere around there when agung went off but I can’t remember the name sorry, was pretty nice!

I’d probably just plug 5* and sort by traveller ranking into tripadvisor with your dates myself. Pick one of the top choices.

There’s an Oberoi around there, they’re never bad.

I would avoid Seminyak. It's not very nice.

Location is obviously your choice, but look at your budget it's way to high 100 us$ a night gets a good place, don't apply Western pricing, people will rip you off, if they think your an easy touch.
Don't waste your money.
I know nothing about high end hotels in Bali, as I have my own place there, but I can't imagine you could get value for the extra money.
I was in Thailand last week on my bike, a very nice beach bungalow, with en suite, bar restaurant, pool, secure parking and a private beach cost me 14 pounds a night, I know that's not realistic for a mid flight stop over, but just to give you an idea of the difference from Western pricing.
My experience of the Thai trip was that people were happy to take 20% of the price on bookings.cpm, so contact the hotel direct.

If you're not planning on leaving the resort we found Samabe in Nusa Dua really nice

I have been to Bali loads of times and I agree with the previous posts that heading west would be a great option if I was going on holiday for a couple of weeks.

However if I was you and I was just there for a short layover and I had your budget, then I would head south from the airport where there are several nice places that would meet your needs.

You could stay somewhere like the Ayana Resort which is pretty nice and has the famous Rock Bar. The bar is great for a sunset, if a bit overcrowded at times but the resort is also close to El Kabron which is a great "beach club" although on a cliff not a beach. Only about 25 mins from the airport.

Or I would head further south to the Ungasan resort which is amazing and also has one of the best beach clubs in Bali, called Sundays. 45 ish minutes drive from the airport subject to traffic.

Or I would see if I could get into Ulu Cliffhouse for a couple of nights, which is a small boutique place but very well run and has a great vibe. Again around 45 mins to airport.

The Ungasan would be my choice, but if none of these work for you there are a lot of other big famous "named" hotels down there which would probably suit your needs. Grand Hyatt, Shangri La, St Regis etc.
