I can't say I've ever really fancied a cruise, but SWMBO does so i need to bite the bullet.

Just me and Mrs.
I think I'd prefer a smaller ship. The huge one's freak me out a little.
Are there adults only cruises?
Any suggestions on to where to start?

Thanks in advance

Hurtigruten had a couple of small coastal ships. Amazing voyage which I shall repeat sometime.

Unfortunately they seem to have retired the MS Lofoten but the MS Nordstjernen looks good to me.

And just to prove i didn't know what i was talking about, i need to add that we would intend departing from the UK.
I live in East Anglia, but driving down to Southampton would be ok if that's a good place to depart from.

IIRC you can fly over and join it at Bergen.........It was a long time ago and it was mainly a working ship when I went, but if you wanted, you could get off and stay the night and then get on the next ship the same time the day after..bit like London buses.

Amazing journey of a lifetime IMO

We did a fabulous Norwegian cruise a couple of years ago with MSC, highly recommend it. It's not for everyone obviously but we love it. Worth looking in the Cruise 2023 thread - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

We have kids so the big ships give loads of stuff for them to do. I imagine some of the smaller ships can get to bits of the Fjords that are less accessible and probably more spectacular.

Most of the fjord cruises tend to be smaller ships to get down the fjords. The scenery is stunning. Enjoy.

Azamara. It’s not adults only, but rarely see any children on board. Small ships, relaxed (no daft dress codes!) and amazing quality. Think of it as a boutique hotel on the water. They do the Fjords at certain times of the year.

We’ve done quite a few cruises with various operators but keep going back to Azamara.

P&O have 2 adults only ships that run though Norway

As far as I’ve seen virgin voyages don’t have any going around there? Not unless it’s changed since I last looked 2 weeks ago as I also want to do a adults only one though the fjords

Been on several cruises to Norway and it’s a lovely place to dip your toes into cruising. A few thoughts….the weather is generally wet, so go prepared for damp conditions. The scenery is stunning wherever you go though, even in the rain. Norway is banning conventionally powered ships from a number of the fjords from 2026 but it is already impacting cruises this year…our own cruise changed at the last minute and is no longer visiting any fjords.

Going next week (9th) to norway for 10 days with Carnival. My first cruise so quite excited. According to the missus the ship isn't as big as the p&o ones. Still looks massive to me

I’d caution against using P&O for your first cruise as you may never want to do it ever again (although that may be a good thing if you really hate the idea).

I found it a bit like Butlins on the water unfortunately - I’ve only done it once mind, so maybe we were unlucky but I can’t imagine so.

We returned a week ago from an MSC cruise to the fjords. They were the most spectacular natural thing I’ve ever seen.

The MSC Virtuosa is a bit of a whopper at up to 6100 passengers (there were 4500 on our cruise apparently) but it was dwarfed by the fjords. We’ve got a great picture from atop the fjord at Loen where you can see the ship in the background. It’s just a spec.

We were on P&O Britannia there last week. Soon got used to the size of the ship. We were stuck with half-term which was busy, but there was always somewhere quiet to sit.

Do not miss Flam!

I liked it. Plenty to do. We were told when boarding that our 17 year old daughter would not be seen by us. That was pretty much the case,, mainly as there was no way to communicate when out of range of land based mobile.

Buffet was a madhouse, but we were in main dining rooms most of the time anyway.
