We are off to the US (end of July) to visit family in Connecticut and we will have four or five days to rent a car and travel north and do some sightseeing...Rhode Island and Cape cod came to mind. Lime Rock race circuit is also on my list. Any other ideas or must see and things to do....?
I won't bother with Boston as that's a city break and something to do separately.

Ferry from Cape Cod to Martha's Vineyard, filming location for Jaws, not that the locals want to be associated with a man eating shark or a brilliant movie. Still worth a day trip. Best town to visit in Cape Cod is Provincetown at the very northern tip, very pretty, very artsy.

Agreed. PTown is very gay which is no problem, just FYI - still a huge mount of fun and good food.

Thanks for that, I had forgotten about Martha's Vineyard and the Jaws connection, Provincetown also looks an interesting place to visit.

We visited Provincetown at the far end of Cape Cod a few years ago. Agree it’s a nice place to visit (and yes it’s very “gay”).
It took a lot longer than we expected to get from Boston to Provincetown and the Cape wasn’t what we expected - you struggle to see any sea driving along the cape which we thought was strange. Also there aren’t many supermarkets so make sure you fill up with supplies (also alcohol is difficult to obtain as supermarkets didn’t stock any) - seems that is obtained from gas stations!
Not what we expected, weather wasn’t great and wouldn’t go back but that’s just our opinion.
