Managed to convince my boss to let me have a month off from mid Dec to mid Jan as long as he can find cover.

Want to rent somewhere in Tenerife with the idea that kids/friends can pop over for a bit and I can start practicing my Spanish.

I normally use Cicar for shorter stays but they are coming out at €1500 for a month whilst 'unknown' companies seem to be €750.

Prefer to land and pick up so if anyone can suggest a company they were happy with and also the best company to cover the excess charge that seems to come with the cheaper deals.

Thanks folks.

I always use autoreisen in the canaries.

Very simple to deal with, no trying to do you over with extra insurances or fuel policy and decent prices.

i came here to recommend Cicar, so that's not going to work.

For a month from December they'll be biting your hand off nearer the time, so either hold out until you're 30-90 days out and keep checking or book something now with free cancellation, because they'll all be happy for your business come November. Nobody is actively looking at pricing competitiveness that far out, and even less so for that length of rental - they;re too focused on Summer.

Whatever strategy you go with, i would still make sure you book with free cancellation to keep checking rates on the run up. I'd bet you can get something for £100 week or less.

Cheers, I did another check with the smallest Cicar, a Fiat 500, and it was €750 with no excesses.

So I may reserve then keep checking the prices, as you suggested.

I'm thinking it's a busy period as Christmas, and all the oldies migrating over to escape the chill.

I was last there late October in 2019 and had a Cicar a couple of times for a day or two hire. It was getting difficult as all their fleet appeared to be booked from late Oct for the entire winter period.

+1 for Autoreisen, have used them several times without any issues.

Tip for if you use them - leave someone at baggage reclaim and go straight to their counter - there are sometimes long queues when lots of people on the same flight are all trying to collect a car at the same time.
