Hi

We arrive in Vegas next week and I have a feeling this is a good place to ask for restaurant recommendations smile

Specifically one for a special occasion (wife's birthday, don't ask how old), one for steak which in my modest experience they do well in USA, another for something different/vegas and finally something decent yet functional on our first jet lagged evening

Budget flexible but most definitely in descending order of the above

Thanks in advance

The Peppermill (just north of Wynn) seems the ideal recommendation for this one. A diner all lit up with neon inside. Good for breakfast. Somewhat of a tourist trap but isn't everywhere on the Strip?

There's a decent steakhouse in every casino, so maybe just go to the one where it is you are staying and charge it to your room to get the points etc.

There's the 'Golden Steer' as a stand alone steak restaurant that claims to be where all the Rat Pack ate back in the day.

If you let us know where it is you are staying there might be some recommendations for place in that resort (or nearby).

For a birthday steak place I'd suggest Joe's Seafood & Prime Steak & Stone Crab in the Forum shops. Don't let the name or location put you off! The food is great, it has a really nice atmosphere and excellent service. But you must book, you get taken to the back, through a curtain and into the restaurant, the bit at the front is much more casual.

Tried, Cut and various other famous named steak places and whilst food and service were good I found them lacking atmosphere.

Loads of casual options but cheesecake factory and Grand Lux are good.

If shopping is your or other halfs thing you can combine with some happy hours one afternoon at Town Square (short bus or cab south along the strip). Lots of the bars and restaurants have happy hours in the afternoon and outside seating, more relaxed than the hectic strip.

Be prepared for the cost of Vegas, steak dinner with nothing extravagent drinks wise will be $300 for two with tax and tip. Prices in Vegas are now getting silly in my opinion!

I've eaten at Mastro's Ocean Club a couple of times

No complaints at all and would seem to meet your criteria

Its in the shopping centre by the Aria

As others say - prices ! Meal for two with a couple of glasses of wine each was $500 inc service ..

The Golden Steer has excellent recommendations for steak from what I've seen (not been myself).

There are several "food tours" there now where you get taken round a few different restaurants, not cheap at all but you do get to try some of the best places.

There's a really good TikTok account, Vegasstarfish, that posts a lot of really good restaurant recommendations and information. Highly recommend having a look there, a lot of good local information of different places and experiences.

Try Holsteins in the Cosmopolitan for the best burger you've ever had!

Texas de Brasil, a Brazilian steakhouse in a shopping mall south of the strip. They just keep putting meat on your plate.

Heart Attack Grill on Fremont Street if you want a bit of a 'performance' with your meal, they whole restaurant's set up like a hospital, wait staff dressed as nurses prepping you for an operation as they're sorting you out with your napkin. Plus anyone over 350lbs eats for free, not sure if that's applicable to you or your Mrs.

If you're looking for somewhere classy, I don't know. I didn't see that bit.

I am just about to post a request for support in Vegas while we're there end of June, but for posh restaurants with a bit of theatre try Top of the World at the Stratosphere - revolving restaurant miles up in the air and the food is outrageously good. And pricey, obvs.

I've eaten there for lunch with my brother, it was a good experience.

They had a photographer taking pictures as well, so you don't have to try and get a selfie with the background yourself. No obligation to buy the photos, and they don't disturb you apart from the quick shooting.

For steak, Oscars in the plaza downtown, it’s a bit of a downmarket hotel, but Oscars is EPIC, it’s not a trip to Vegas without.

It’s way better than the steak places in the big strip hotels, Wynn, Venetian, Cosmo, Aria included.

https://www.oscarslv.com/

Or Mon Ami Gabi, just opposite the Bellagio, wait for a terrace table and watch the fountains. This is little more refined, les vegas than Oscars.

If you fancy it the buffets are worth experiencing, the good buffets serve amazing food, Ballys do a Sunday brunch buffet that serves amazing steaks, but it’s Sunday only.

We had a lovely meal in the restaurant at the top of the Stratosphere, though that was many years ago, not even sure if it still there? Used to have a roller coaster on the top of the building.

We went with a large group to Tao in The Venetian, pan-Asian restaurant which is some of the best Chinese/Thai food I've had. A bit loud and trendy (I think it turns into a nightclub later on) but great food.
The group also went to the Hofbräuhaus beer hall just off the strip, the food was very average but as an Americanised German beer hall with large bench tables, oompa band, games on stage was a lot of fun.

I read somewhere that the restaurant side of the John Mull business was setup purely for the Guy Fieri DDD show as they couldn't find any other suitable BBQ restaurants in Vegas to feature, and that was enough to kickstart it from nothing.

Whilst I'm here, I don't think anyone's mentioned the somewhat recent (last 5 years) patch of breweries opening in the Arts District between The Strip and Downtown. There's a few 'foodie' type restaurants in the area too.

You may well be right. Certainly I have heard of them appearing on the Guy Fieri show. All I know is that the food was epic and the folks working there were very friendly and had some interesting stories to tell.

Forget to mention earlier the Stratosphere restaurant had good food, and superb views. Great place to take a break from the chaos that is Vegas!

House of Blues in Mandalay Bay did good food and even better entertainment. Waitress there gave us passes to the Foundation Bar on the 63rd floor of Mandalay Bay which was absolutely brilliant. Was described as having a house party vibe by a couple of local guys we got talking to in the lift and they were right. $10 for a Corona but then head outside for an unforgettable view down the Strip.

We always go to Vic and Anthony’s in the Golden Nugget for steak. I love that place but it holds sentimental value for us so that probably helps.
