Hi All

Looking for some ideas for our family holiday this summer please folks.

Thanks to lack of funds when she was little and then lockdowns, we've never actually had a 'foreign' summer holiday with our 13 year old daughter so instead of dragging her away in the caravan to The Lakes again this year, she's strongly suggested a 'proper holiday, like my friends'! smile

Looking for a family friendly location. She'd like a beach but we're not one to just lie on the beach sizzling. Big enough for her to mooch round shops and for us to not run out of coffee shops on a 2 week stay. Enough casual stuff to do without making special trips to theme parks etc.

Not silly money, <£3k in total for 2 adults & 1 kid.

Majorca has been suggested as have Canaries. But anyone got any recomendations either for general destination or specific resorts so I can start homing in the Google searches?

Popped into a Travel Agent but they seemed to struggle to recommend anything beyond the the 18-30 or dull-as-ditch-water options!

Cheers

This may sound strange but Benidorm is fabulous during the day, has great restaurants, shops and coffee places and a fabulous beach. Also not expensive for an apartment

It is only when the living dead crawl round late at night that it becomes really bad in certain places which you have to learn to avoid and there is always the old town if Levant end is too loud.

Under 3k for two weeks in summer holidays is asking for a miracle anywhere I’d think, unless you’re camping in France.

I’m tempted this summer to do a few days in an Airbnb near Barcelona and then head up the coast to one of the Del Mar’s for some cheaper hotel life.

Costa Adeje in Tenerife, but I think you’re too late for 2 weeks with your budget…10 days maybe.

We went with our 13 yo son last year, twice pre Covid and have booked for ‘24. Fantastic Siam Park water park, nice beach, great range of restaurants for all budgets, shops etc etc.

We’ve used jet2 for the last 3 trips to Adeje and for the next. They have always been good.

It’s not the most adventurous trip but it’s out of the box relaxing one size fits all.

Thanks Guys, much Googling to be done smile

The Travel Agent was pushing us towards a £2.98k package in Santa Ponsa, Majorca. Funnily enough, I managed to get the same package, same flights, dates etc for £2.7 without really trying! There's deals to be had if you're flexible, but don't want to end up in some lousy place that they can't shift!

Over the teenage wails of "Everyone on TikTok is going to Majorca!" we finally got sorted. Two weeks it is, just between Puerto de Santiago & Los Gigantes (Tenerife). Canaries definately coming in at consistently better prices at the moment so leaves a bit extra in the pot for spends. Just under £2k for a family of three. Even if the place is run by Basil Fawlty's half-brother, it'll be fine!

Teenage grinch has been won over by the rooftop mini-golf and the promise of shopping in a mall where many of the brands are UK ones... bangheadbanghead

Been to Lanzarote before but not Tenerife so any insider tips for places to go/see/explore always appreciated.

I'm presuming it's still the case that best car hire deals are to be found in the mutitude of little agencies rather than the package deal add-ons?

Autoreisen or Payless from the airport. Pick up and return with zero issues.

Mount Teide national park is well worth the drive but may not be appreciated by a teenager.

Avoid the pirate ship at Los Gigantes on less than smooth days as it is vomit-inducing.
