I’m planning on visiting later this week to take a look around and generally soak up the atmosphere, but I have been told that you can no longer park on the main straight in front of the pits. I understand that you now have to request permission to visit from the group which maintains the property.

I’m struggling to find any definitive information and just wondered if anyone been recently and is this true? My intention is just stopping for half an hour, take a few photos then continuing on our journey.

I haven't been recently but my understanding is that parking is, indeed, now prohibited unless you are there for a formal Friends of Reims- Gueux meeting. The police can issue on the spot fines if they catch you parked up there. I don't know how much the fine is.

That's a shame. I parked up for a look around about 5 or 6 years ago. It didn't feel dangerous or like I was going to inconvenience anyone.

You could then drive around three quarters, or more, of the circuit / roads. The last section had been 'landscaped' into a dead end.

I went last summer after these restrictions were brought in - there was a car show taking place in the grassed area behind the pits at the time so whether that made any difference I'm not sure, but there were a few cars parked in the 'pit lane' and nobody seemed to be bothered. I stopped for less than five minutes, took a quick photo and then got back on the road so if that's all you want to do you'll probably be okay. If you want to spend half an hour there taking it all in, that might be more risky.

I was there in March. Just parked up for 10 minutes to have a stroll around. There was a chap with a Mustang parked up when I arrived and a couple of other British cars pulled in just as I was leaving.

No sign of any authority figures to check on you, and I didn't see any obvious 'no parking' signs.

I suspect the rules are just there in case the Police want to move on large groups, and the site owner perhaps to get a small donation from organised tours that stop over.

Could you not “ break down “ bonnet up whilst you get your pics , surely the car was overheating hence you needed to stop ?
Mind you , I lived in France for a while and know fine well the gendarmes have no sense of humour , I reckon it’s part of the job interview , if you crack a smile you don’t get the job .

Thanks for the replies.

On balance, I’m going to risk just stopping there for a few minutes to get some photos and then be on my merry way.

There's very little to see so you won't need to stop for long.

Curiously there's very little motor racing memorabilia available Reims - I guess their champagne business is where all the money is. You can get a decent poster online. I have a large, framed giclee poster of this image which is quite pleasing,

I’d just put one of those warning triangles behind the car and pretend you’ve broken down.

I was there in the summer last year.... nobody around, wide stretch of road with a large tarmac verge, parked up, no problems at all. I guess to a drive by and have a nose! smile

I'm hoping to stop on my way down to monaco.

Depending on time - will be on the way down or back.

My boss did a tour of europe in his mini last year and was parked up for a hour, didn't get a fine, went around all the buildings etc.

For me the purpose is more to get a photo, as I have been meaning to go for years, and haven't yet.

Warning triangle is probably a good shout tbh!

Stopped to take some pics and had a walk around last August, no issues at all and no sign of any authorities. This was a family trip, maybe a big group might attract more attention.

As I’ll be in a TVR, perhaps the warning triangle idea is a good one as everyone will believe it to be genuine!! biglaugh

Just by way of an update.

We visited Reims today and were able to take a few photos. There was a handful of what looked like maintenance men working behind the pits but no one seemed even remotely interested in what we were doing. Perhaps if we were part of a group we may have been asked to move on, but as it was, we were able to stay for 10 minutes or so.
