Cunard and dress-code query...
Discussion
OK I find myself in a bit of a quandary I've seen a cruise that ticks every box (or at leadt seems to) on my 'places to visit' box. At first glance it doesn't seem to be insanely priced, indeed it might be considered a (relative) bargain and is the ONLY cruise I've seen with this itinerary (28 nights). However...
I'm strictly a jeans and tee-shirt guy. I appreciate thst this will preclude us from the 'gala nights', no great shakes, but will that affect other nights too? Whilst I don't mind eating in the 'canteen' a couple of times a week, everyday would be less than ideal too. I feel that, even if only for practical reasons, a suit (or 2) plus the shirts & shoes does take up quite a chunk of luggage room/weight pointlessly.
Yes I can 'man up'/'suck it up' but a little research/being prepared isn't a bad thing....

I think what you will find is you will feel out of place and not too comfortable being the only one who has not made an effort to dress up a bit. It's a shirt or two and a pair of trousers that's all. I don't think they bar you from the dinning these days as we all have to show tolerance.
Personally I think it's despicable and they should keel haul you .
Every day

Every day
I've done something like 13 Cunard trips now.
In the day I'll be in a t-shirt / jeans or shorts. On non formal nights you no longer require a jacket. Shirt and trousers is acceptable (I used to wear a jacket but don't now). Formal nights I'll wear a tux.
A T-Shirt won't be allowed for any venues other than the Golden Lion or buffet at night.
For the sake of packing a few shirts and some chinos I'd not let it spoil your enjoyment of the trip.
In my day life I'm a scruffy bd and live in walking trousers, knackered tshirts and knackered hoodies...

the cruise is from Southampton - however the return is a flight from San Fran hence some of the luggage concern.
Always manage to pack a Tuxedo and suit with no problems. I have more issue with shoes as we do a lot of walking and boots take a lot of space. As ever, there are plenty of helpful videos on the internet…it’s amazing what you can fit in a case if you pack efficiently. Plus Cunard ships have self service laundries (although they closed during covid)

They will stop you looking like a scruffy oik, which is the opposite of pointless. Obviously take the them off your neck when you get to your cabin.
Yes, after trying 2 cruises (Caribbean which is not my bag & Eastern Med from Southampton which was better) we decided they’re definitely not for us.
A bit like a posh bus trip on water - limited time in port (we even tried to miss our ship when we were in Venice - unfortunately we got back in time) & you know you’re going to get fleeced when visiting each port.
I like to relax on holiday, not dress up like penguin and look like everyone else.
We like our own space so we book Airbnb rather than stay in hotels so I guess we don’t really like people!!
Each to their own though.

I must admit that there'd been more than a soucon of doubt (the whole penguin comment above sums up my attitude, as you might have guessed). Whilst the cruise itinerary was massively appealing (Southampton to San Fran via the Panama Canal and Bermuda) I think that common sense has to come to the fore and if i'm already feeling 'uncomfortable' about dressing up/dress-codes it's a fairly long old time to put up with that (not to mention not exactly a negligible amount of ££ involved),
There are enough PC cruises in either direction to fulfil that particular desire so it's not as if there's no alternative

Good Lord, so many reasons not to go on a cruise. And this type of tom foolery is right up there.
Bet there's not many there who will not be swearing allegiance to our beloved new king.
Yep, sounds utterly horrendous! Bet there's not many there who will not be swearing allegiance to our beloved new king.
He said there are some some 'snobby' people but they just avoid them. They don't do the full dress dinners.
