I need to get from the outskirts of Cardiff (Newport side) to Heathrow airport Sunday 2nd July for an overnight stay before my Monday flight.

Wondering if anyone has any experience of public transport options, coach or train? I'm not familiar with who the train or coach companies are these days, not being a UK resident. I am looking for convenience as I'll have a suitcase with me. Just myself traveling. I'd like to get to Heathrow early evening. I can get a lift to a station or coach stop.

Thanks

Ynox

Done this many a time over the years. Options are:

  • Coach - National Express from Cardiff (Sophia Gardens) or Newport direct to either T5 or Heathrow Central coach station
  • Train - train from Cardiff or Newport to London Paddington. Either Elizabeth Line or Heathrow Express then out to either LHR Central or T5.
  • Train - train from Cardiff or Newport to Reading. Then pick up Railair bus to LHR.
Of these, the direct coach is probably the easiest if maybe not the quickest. Quickest is train to Paddington then the Heathrow Express (although also most expensive).

A quick look on National Express shows direct services from Newport (or Cardiff) to Heathrow. Quickest but most expensive is 2 hours 10 minutes from £48, a slower service can be from £38.

Cheapest train from Newport is £32 on an Advance ticket but needs two changes (as suggested on NationalRail). Into Paddington and back out again is only a few minutes quicker.

I took the National Express from Newport to Heathrow in November. Brilliant service and seemed to get there quickly. We were staying at the Hilton so an easy walk from the coach station. Just make sure you're waiting in the right place for the coach (if you decide this option) as I would have been waiting in the wrong place if it wasn't for my gf!

Thanks for all the quick and informative replies. I need to sort some accommodation then it looks like a National Express ticket for me.
