I’m travelling from Armenia and connecting in milan to go back to London and plan on carrying quite a bit of duty free goods purchased in the airport

Will I be able to take this on the plane in the plastic bag in addition to my luggage bag ?

This isn’t a direct answer to your question but a little warning re sale of DF.

I flew to Kenya transited in Saudi, only there an hour and the DF I bought in Heathrow was confiscated despite being assured by the sales staff it’d be fine.

It was in a sealed bag with receipt etc.

I don’t know if that’s normal but it surprised me and I was very particular in asking at Heathrow knowing I’d be travelling through Saudi Arabia.?

That is a little worrying, at what point was it confiscated?

I was just walking to the departure gate for my connecting flight, still in the same terminal.

It was quite worrying as I was taken in a room with 2 security, they took my passport too, only for a look but nonetheless it’s no fun being in a Saudi airport with a bottle of drink and having your passport taken while being questioned.

I’m usually full of it but was definitely compliant and humble that day.

Lost the booze but passport was returned.

Funnily enough on the return the officials remembered me and we had a laugh!

You’ll be fine with a carrier bag in addition to hand luggage though. No issue at all, I’d suggest the bags stapled closed with the receipt.

Thanks for the reply

Would the limits of the country apply ?

Let’s say I was being cheeky and bringing in 2 cartons of cigs instead of 1 and connecting through Italy to the UK but buying the cigs in armenia, would they be confiscated in Italy for going over the allowance when connecting in Italy ?

It's a risk - and what you're carrying. Cigs likely less of a problem than alcohol.

It depends on the format of the connection - if there is another security check and if they apply the >100ml rule to liquids, anything over that may be rejected - sealed duty free or not.

Then there's airline policy - some allow duty free purchases in addition to regular hand luggage allowance, others not.

You might be OK, you might not......

Definitely a risk !

Just had a look and the duty free limits for Italy are huge, 3500 cigs - so allocation won’t be an issue but as said before they might just take them anyway…
