Amsterdam and beyond… ideas?

We’ve just come back from a mini trip in the Netherlands with our 3 year old and we’ve got the bug to do another road trip. We just did Giethoorn, Balkbrug, and Haarlem this time. A few years ago (pre child) we did a trip from Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and south of France.

It’s given us the bug to do another. Looking for inspiration to be honest. Amsterdam is an easy start point for us given ferry from Newcastle and taking the car.

Grateful for any thoughts / ideas for a two week road trip. Probably September with a toddler.

I'd drive north, following the coast and take in some of the islands, destination Denmark

As above I’d be tempted to start in Rotterdam using the Hull ferry and head up to Denmark.

I'm Dutch and go back (by car) a couple times a year, and try and show my (British) wife different parts of the country each year.

I'm from the South (Zuid Limburg) which has some great area's like Valkenburg and Vaals (with the 'drielanden punt' where Holland, Belgium and Germany meet) and Limburg is also a great location to hop across to border for day trips to Bruges, Antwerp or Cologne to name a few.

From Limburg it's not far to Zeeland, where you can visit Goes, Zierikzee (delta park, bit like Sealife Centre is fun for kids) and then after a few days in Zeeland head up to Scheveningen (great seaside town) and Rotterdam.

And from there it's only a 1.5 hour drive to Den Helder where you can take the boat across to Texel (one of the little isle's) which is what we did last year.

spending as little time in amsterdam as possible is desirable i think.
