Afternoon tea, Dublin
Discussion
Where's the best Afternoon Tea establishment in Dublin?
We're heading over to Ireland next month in order to meet an elderly relative.
We would like to treat them to a fine afternoon tea - you know, finger sandwiches, tiered cakes, tea strainers & doilies. That kind of thing.
Can you recommend somewhere that fits the bill?
We don't want a Ritz level offering, as I can't be doing with taking a jacket and tie over. Just somewhere with a quiet yet interesting ambience that will engender happy memories.
Thank you.

Thank you.
Does it have to be in Dublin proper?
If not, I would 100% recommend Powerscourt (30-40 min drive): https://powerscourt.com/
Stunning and not pretentious. Food is good, too.

Thank you for that. However, due to our relative's frailty, we'd like to stay within Dublin. If not, I would 100% recommend Powerscourt (30-40 min drive): https://powerscourt.com/

Grew up there.
If you want something that has been there forever, then Bewleys on Grafton in a traditional cafe with good baked stuff . Might be a bit informal but it is really Dublin.

The Lord Mayor's Lounge in the Shelbourne which is on Stephen's Green has a full afternoon tea, though not cheap I recall:

Have not been back in a while but these might be worth a look.

My Dub wife says definitely The Shelbourne but says people do get dressed up to go there and echoes Rd’s point that it’s not cheap.
Bewleys is nice enough too.
Recollect Clontarf Castle was nice for lunch but I don’t know if they do afternoon tea.
Edit: She’s had a rethink because girl. Apparently the Westin beside the O’Connell Bridge fits the bill.
