A bit of fluff, this.

Next Saturday is my birthday, and Mrs.O has us booked in to a dog friendly hotel somewhere in the UK. All I've been told is that is is 4.5 hours drive from postcode TF2, but maybe a little longer to allow pooch to chill out and have a little walk.

I have narrowed it down to either NE or SW England. Apparently, we've not visited the area before, as we have done Scotland, the Lake District, Dorset, and Somerset. The the food, I've been told, is really good (such breakfasts like scrambled eggs with smoked salmon / eggs royale and such like).

I reckon somewhere in Cornwall.

What do we think?

4.5 hours would get you deep into Cornwall from Telford.

I hope this doesn't ruin the surprise but I have it on good authority that you're staying in a nice family run hotel in Torquay. Say hello to Manuel wink

I asked the steering committee, and she confirms not Norfolk or Scarborough or Watergate Bay.

Coincidentally, I asked about an hour ago if we will still be on the mainland and answer was yes! This was after guessing Padstow, which was met with an emphatic no.....

The Ironbridge Gorge, but you will be taking a circuitous route to get there.

You're definitely going to Padstow despite the denial. Google Maps advises it's exactly 4hrs 30mins drive from TF2 via the M5 and A30.

So, to bring this to a conclusion, I mentioned to the steering committee earlier that it would be better to plan a route in good time if I knew where we were going.

She agreed, and revealed that we are going to Chatton in Northumberland. Specifically here

Now, I'm chuffed with this. You see, many years ago EVO magazine road tested the new Lotus Europa (remember them???) and Simister took one to the deserted roads of Northumberland. It was a fantastic write-up, and I've wanted to visit that part of the UK for ages. I've already plotted a more scenic route than that suggested by Google Maps, and I'm looking forward to a walk on the beach next to Bamburgh Castle and some pics of Lindisfarne Island.
