I need to plan a lad's holiday for the end of May, but I'm a little out of my depth as my holidays are usually in the US and road trip based.

Ideally, we are looking for somewhere known for its nightlife and where bars and clubs are just a ten-minute walk away (max) from our hotel or self-catered apartment. The beach shouldn't be too far away either.

I know the obvious answer to some may be Ibiza or Tenerife, but where about exactly? I'm not familiar with that part of the world

Any suggestions are welcome, thanks smile

It's been a while since doing a lads holiday but we used to do an 18-30's every summer.

We always preferred Ayia Napa out of all the different ones we did, especially compared to Ibiza which just became very expensive over the years.

How old are you? Done a few of those places over the years and they generally are run down beach resorts full of tacky shops, small bars selling cheap booze, a young crowd away for the first time and annoying promo staff.

Recently did Ibiza and although expensive it is better than other lively resorts, quite a mixed age range which is a bonus if your over 30.

Edited to add we stay in San Antonio, there is an all inclusive adult hotel with direct access to the beach

Magaluf
San Antonio or Playa d'en Bossa, Ibiza
Hvar or Split, Croatia

All of those. Plus any of the resorts on Costa Del Sol (Benidorm, Benalmadena, Torromolinos etc). Barcelona. Bodrum/Gumbet in Turkey. Los Cristianos Tenerife.

Most of these types of places are a bit tacky but they cater well for a lads holiday. They all have the same types of bars with the same types of people in. They used to be more tolerant of the drunk behaviour but I think a lot of places are trying to clamp down on that. Beware the all inclusive '6 drink limit' at certain places in the Balearics if you go for AI.

Barcelona is probably the least tacky and being a city will have a few more things to do but bars etc are more spread out. You will still get your SSA&P though.

The price difference between Ibiza and Tenerife would be considerable.

Sanantonio Bay for ibiza, short walk along the front down to es paradise for nightlife, Idk where the big clubs actually are like mambo and pacha though if thats your thing.

Been to ayia napa a couple of times and going back this year, if you stay in the centre anywhere near the hard rock your amongst it all, no big trendy clubs though like ibiza but plenty of bars, festivals & concerts throughout summer with big names. It's pretty relaxed compared to ibiza but still a good do.

From experience and what you've said I'd recommend ayia napa smile

Thanks for the suggestions.

One thing I forgot to mention is that a couple of my mates want to go for a full week (to get away from the missus).

Is there enough stuff to keep you occupied in the likes of Magaluf for a week? That feels like a long time considering we won't want to be partying every day.

I'd say that most of the places suggested so far are, nowadays, rather dowdy and only really suitable for those who are young enough to get drunk every night and sleep through the day.

I have been to Magaluf when I was younger and IMO a full week there would be horrendous! It's just a resort from the British package holiday boom in the 60's and now survives of stag and hen party's.

It's ideal if you want 48 hours of carnage in a resort with no culture, this also depends on your age as it's a young crowd.

For a week I would be looking at somewhere like Croatia (Split & Hvar), Montenegro, or somewhere like Malaga & a nearby resort town to give you easy access to a nice city and a lively resort

How old are you all?

It soon gets boring going partying every night and if you’re a bit older 30s then you’ll look a bit tragic going somwhere like magaluf or malia with all the 18 year olds especially if you’re going for a week.

Ayia nappa has some nice palaces near by where you can be a bit more civilised

Best night out I’ve ever had was Bangkok

How about Nice or St Tropez? Mykonos or Zrce Croatia, Ayia Napa in Cyprus is still pretty mad.

San Antonio is looking favourite at the mo. Ibiza isn't a huge island, so even if we run out of things to do locally, it doesn't appear to be too difficult to get around to the other parts of the island.

If we can do 3 days of drinking and 4 days of activities, then that would work well.

Rough and hungover I wouldn’t want to be travelling that far!

Ibiza is ok and not that expensive if you don’t want to do the clubs. We private hired a boat one day that was great.

Interesting you suggest Phuket because I have two business class tickets I need to use (which can get me to Phuket), but it seems quite a distance to go for just one week.

I've always assumed if you are going anywhere that far away then you really need to go for at least 10 days?

Youtube is your friend, just search Phuket or any potential destination nightlife walk and will give you an idea of the atmosphere.

If your flying business, a week would be enough time, your not going for culture or experiences. Its also a little different than the standard Ibiza, Benidorm and Marbella fare.
