Next year is a big one for us 25 years married and 50th birthday so we're looking for a decent holiday. Family consists of me, wife, boys that will be 17 and 15 and daughter 12. I fancied a more adventurous trip, but my wife insists on not flying for more than 4 hours and wants to 'relax'.

I'm finding this harder to sort than I thought...Did look at pushing budget further and going for Ikos resorts which seem universally recommended, but I concluded that it's more of a couples thing..so we'll do that for 30th. Then many of the other resorts seem much of a muchness, we have done Turkey before in this way, but I'm not sure I fancy the extreme August heat.

Any recommendations ? Given the criteria, I'm leaning towards a higher end all-inclusive, preferably with access to a nice fine sand beach and with potential to get out and about a little with a hire car. Lots of pools and a water park would be ideal. We're hoping to get 10 days for c.£13k, which pains me, but seems to be the going rate at a decent place....

Ikos is definitely one of the better answers and I promise you it’s mainly families rather than couples…

Thanks, they do look good. I was slightly perturbed at paying for 5 people, only 2 of which will fully appreciate the food and drink on offer....!

I know but if it’s relaxation you’re after, Ikos is definitely a good option.

I get that they’re not cheap but that’s partly because they don’t get it wrong. We send thousands of guests there every year and of all the properties around the world we deal with, Ikos has one of the lowest complaint rates and highest repeat rates.

You can relax having full reassurance you’ll get what you paid for and everyone will have a great time.

Thanks, in fairness that's pretty much what the agent I've spoken to has said, 85% to 90% repeat visitor rate which says something.

Gilmore - meant to say (given what you do !) is there an Ikos that you'd recommend more than any other for things to do that are likely to appeal to the kids / teenagers...? Or are they all similar ?

All broadly similar.

Olivia is best for those with younger kids as is flat, ideal for pushing prams!

Oceania is the opposite, right on a cliff edge which is interesting.

I’d honestly pick the week you want to go, get ‘em all priced up and see which has the best combination of flight times / room type and overall £.

Not been there but have been to mitsis laguna in Crete. Absolutely lovely hotel and facilities. Beautiful food, really good in buffet and excellent in the a la carte restaurants.

Beach wasn't all that but didn't bother me. There was a hotel kebab van to make up for that!

Would definitely recommend a Mitsis hotel.
