Greek Islands - September
Discussion
I’ve stayed in the Four Seasons in Limassol, Cyprus a few times, albeit a while ago. Accommodation, food, service etc all exceptional, as you’d expect for the price. The island’s big enough to explore by car if you wish, or just laze by the pool or use the sports facilities. You’ll find lots of 4/5 star hotels on this and other islands, many of them are very good. Cyprus is a beautiful island and September’s a good time to visit when there are fewer families about.
Pre-covid we went to Greece every September. It's a great time to go and being near the end of touristy season you get far more of the chilled, relaxed vibe of whatever island you go to.
You can't really go wrong with either Rhodes or Crete. Rhodes would probably be the easy choice. Rhodes Town has a lot going for it by itself.

Can anybody recommend which greek island to visit in September (couple, after nice beach / restaurants and relax) plus a decent 4/5 star hotel ?
Ideally hotel by beach and other restaurants
Guidance appreciated - normally been to spanish islands but fancy a change.

Even October can be nice as the sea is still warm. Keep in mind that if you leave it until last week of Sept, into Oct some Islands might start closing down some beach bars, restaurants, hotels.etc... They tend to work from mid May to end Sept.
FYI Greek schools usually go back around 13-14th Sept.
If, as a couple, you like a bit of adventure you should consider visiting the "Cyclades" group of islands. These are mostly serviced by several ferry lines from the port of Piraeus. The ferries are go up and down the islands and you just hop on/off. So you can sample a few different islands.

This above link will give you a little flavor of each island. Each island totally unique.Think i have been to 13 of these listed islands. You can then check what hotels might be available to your taste/price range. Few weeks into September consider as off peak.
Naxos is a decent size island that has 5 star hotels and you can easily hop to other islands close by. E.g. Paros, Ios, Antiparos and even Santorini.

We found this out last year when we realised our hotel was next to a primary school in Malia. The lovely relaxed long lies we had enjoyed in our first week were soon a distant memory after they went back to school.

We absolutely loved Rhodes when we went and stayed in a stunning Air bnb with a hot tub which was well worth it. Ive also heard great things about Milos.Ideally hotel by beach and other restaurants

Crete - all day long.
There's something there for everyone:
Malia for the teens
Elounda for the posh people
Paleochora for the aging hippies
Platanias for the chavs
and loads more besides
My favourite place is definitely Paleochora, but there's a distinct lack of 4* & 5* hotels - which is probably what gives it it's charm.
