Thailand 15 days, beginning Aug - Itinerary ideas/thoughts

I have a 5 hour drive to Thailand, and my kids were brought up in Thailand in the school holidays.
When my kids were that age they loved the fact they could do 'grown up' things. You can go diving at that age, my son loved the petrol go carts, and simple things like being allowed on the billard table in the hotel.
The climbing in Krabbie is great fun, and as a climber I can affirm the safety stds.
I advise simple hotels on the beach, not big corporate hotels, then kids can think they are free but you can watch them from the balcony or coffee table.
Trust the hotels to organize trips like rafting and monkey, they are all agents for the same operators.
I wouldn't overthink it, a 12 year old will love it, don't spend to much time traveling and changing locations.
Thais love kids, and make them welcome.

I spend a lot of time in Thailand.
Hua Hin is a good base. The town itself has very good shopping Malls. Bluport and Market Village plus a 7km beach
Travel south from Hua Hin along the coast and you will see amazing beaches and scenery. so stay at small resorts and enjoy beachside life at low cost.
The only downside for a Pistonhead is the choice of cars. All very utilitarian. Locals outside Bangkok drive pickups. Hilux on company expenses are driven to the max at any opportunity. Speed limit is dependant on how fast your vehicle can go. This of course does help the country keep its title of the second most dangerous driving country.
As far as airlines are concerned they are all same same if you travel cattle. Last time I used EVA Air. Direct, no stops BKK LHR.
Good price, better scram than the Arabian flights and no stopping in Arabia. LHR is inconvenient formethough.
Enjoy Thailand. (don't do Phuket or Pattaya if you want your child to have morals in later life)

My kids went to Pucket a lot, when my lad was 20
I had open haery surgury so he had I had a wekend in Phuket, he couldn't belive it was the place he went as a child, e g. he had never been in Bangla road after dark, yes there are better places but its convenient and easy to avoid the seedy side.
I agree completely on flying dirct, for me there is nothing worse than a stop in the Gulf.

Interesting it's that much cheaper, i book Asia-Europe return because we holiday in Europe, and it's cheaper to fly direct, that's why givong advice is difficult, we are all diffrent, I normally drive or if I'm on my own ride my bike, so I have my own transport, that impacts my advice because I can go off the tourist track. I am allways amazed what Eurapeans pay for hotels.
