I’m planning to visit an elderly relative in Luton and have no idea where to stay, I don’t want to stay in one of the airport hotels nor the town centre from the look of it, so looking for some decent budget suggestions. The area I’m going to is Biscot, north of the centre, but quite happy to drive a short distance, 20 mins or so out of town for somewhere more pleasant, no objections to Travelodge or Holiday inn as long as they’re not likely to be full of pissed up bell ends off to Benidorm from the airport. Thanks for any suggestions…

Best of luck!

I’d suggest Dunstable but all the main ‘budget’ places are shut due to housing refugees at the moment.

Hitchin?

Cripes, it’s certainly not a holiday destination biggrin

Do you have your own transport whilst there? If so, that opens up some quite nice villages around where you’d no doubt find a decent AirBnb.

Check out the Black Horse in Ireland, around 10 miles north (so the right end for Biscot Road) of Luton - it’s a lovely pub with great food, and nice looking rooms (I’ve sampled the former, not the latter, but can confirm the service is great).

There’s also the Crown in Henlow, which offers accommodation and food - not quite the same standard as the BH, though,

As someone who had to work in Luton for a few months and in 3mths was subject to being caught up in a fake terror attack (guy wearing what turned out to be a fake suicide vest) and also had a tin of gloss paint thrown over me - both events in the centre of Luton - I would never return, so my condolences.

If it were me, I would stay at the Doubletree in MK ... only 20miles / 30mins away and is much more civilised

+1 for Harpenden, and I'd add St Albans, Woburn and Milton Keynes into the mix

Harpenden is nice, but you’ve got the pain of driving through the town centre to get to Biscot. Better off staying to the north of the town to avoid that!

There are some Eco Lodges in Clophill. Never been myself, but heard good things about them.

The Airman in Meppershall has plenty of rooms and is above a decent Turkish Restaurant.

Crown in Henlow as said, is decent.

Shefford has the White Hart Hotel, I think its a bit tired now. Although the pub and bar seem to have had a facelift.

The Green Man in Stanford always seems popular.

The Firs Hotel in Hitchin.

I've no real knowledge of the North East of Luton.

Good Luck.

Luton Hoo or The Woburn (which was recently renovated - new restaurant there is very nice too).
