Won't bore with too much detail but looking for a bit of advice on an insurance claim I'm in the process of escalating to the ombudsman.

End of Dec i travelled to Argentina to climb Aconcagua so lots of dedicated and mandatory safety kit in my luggage and a specific travel insurance policy with "extreme activity pack" that covered this specific expedition.

Unfortunately when arriving in Mendoza, my bag didn't, and still didn't follow for the next 3 days, by which time i'd missed my chance to join the expedition and then had to, via complaint with airline, get an immediate flight back home.

I've claimed my travel insurance as i couldn't join the expedition and my "accommodation" and sustenance was all on the mountain as part of the 3 week expedition. They have rejected on the grounds that my policy had a clause that "curtailment" was only related to death, health or injury of policyholder or close relative back home.

I'm out of pocket for flights, expedition and climbing permits - One thing i had hoped would be in my favour is that the policy specifically states that i must have appropriate safety kit as advised by my expedition guides and with my missing bag, i couldn't access this. To date the insurer and the underwriting complaints process have not engaged at all other than boiler plate responses saying "curtailment is only for blah blah blah"...

I'm now not holding out much hope but wondered if anyone experience or any guidance on anything i should be doing / specifically calling out etc.

PS - I have exhausted complaints with the airline and recouped some of my outgoings but still significantly out of pocket.

Any views welcome
Chris
