Hi all

Mrs' 40th in late May and we're looking to book somewhere for 2 nights. Budget around £500 for both nights, dog friendly - would prefer countryside but with a modern twist.

Dropping child off in South Shields, so somewhere within 2 hours or so would be perfect

Any personal recommendations..?

Thanks all!

I’ve not been yet, but I’ve booked the ‘schloss roxburghe’ which is a fancy ‘hyatt’ hotel for my wife’s 40th. looks like they also allows dogs, old building but refurbed in a modern style.

cant give feedback until the end of april tho!!

Lord Crewe Arms Bamburgh:

The chef from the famed fish restaurant The Crab and Lobster has recently gone to the Lord Crewe and it's now the place to eat.

My sis was there recently and was singing it's praises.

If Brampton and Mid April works, check out the Kirkstyle Inn and Sportsman’s Rest, recently opened by Nick Parkinson. The Rectory at Slaggyford is the very upmarket place to stay, also by Nick and wife Roz. Dog friendly too. Previous Michelin star holders.

Contact on reservations@theksi.Co.uk, phone 01434 671526.

Just up the road is the Victoria Hotel. Mrs L and I stayed there on Friday, it was very good.

Thanks all, some really good suggestions. A few with no availability sadly, but some good options!

Crikey - what a coincidence, I was just trying to find out the other day when the rebuilt Kirkstyle Inn reopens but couldn't find anything out about it. It was a favourite of ours for mid week cycling trips. I was unable to find anything online such as a website.

Where is the Sportsman's Rest then - this is my neck of the woods and I feel that I should know?

I was in the Wallace over the weekend, a great wet pub.

I used to stay at Burts Hotel in Melrose regularly, it's traditional Scottish with a v decent restaurant. Not silly pricey and some great roads around.

I ate here last night with Mrs Loto - unbelievably good food, fine dining/Michelin standard for pub prices. We thought the food was better than L'enclume, can't wait to return - we are thinking of booking a repeat slot every Friday evening!

Yeah Potted Lobster is a great place. Been for food a few times. Extended family have a rental property in Bamburgh and we had family caravan there for 20 years so its familiar spot for us.

Went to Lord Crewe just after Xmas for Sunday Lunch and it was ok but nothing special which was disappointing for the price

Its not a hotel but I’m actually sat in a lovely 2 bedroom dog friendly cottage at this very moment in beadnell , 2 mins walk from a choice of 2 pubs with food and a really nice little fish restaurant and an hours walk along the beach from seahouses and high Newton , bamburgh is another 40 mins walk further up from seahouses .
Safe parking and a genuinely nice places on the doorstep . If your interested answer here and I’ll pm you the owner’s details , it’s not mine or anyone I know by the way ! Just a nice place .
Beadnell towers is also dog friendly and very nice rooms from what i was told last night and is one of the places I’m down the road from .
