Have booked flights from LHR to Melbourne, but didn't really look at the layover times on the way out! Have got 1 hour layover, which seems like it could be a bit tight. Does anyone have any experience with this, or can tell me how it works?

Haven't done a long haul like this before so never had the experience! Flying with Cathay Pacific. (I know, I've read the reviews! hehe )

With a connection that tight there will probably be airline staff collecting you up at the end of the jetway ready to shepherd you to the ongoing flight.

Are you transferring flights, or is it one of those 'leave your stuff on the plane while we refuel and stretch your legs for a bit' situations?

Transferring flights, I think anyway. All with Cathay Pacific so hopefully there'll be a shepherd in Hong Kong. Can't imagine its too difficult, think they land and take off from the same terminal.

As above, both flights are at T1 but that terminal is huge with gates running down each side of the, I think, 5 legs. The minimum connecting time CX/CX is 60 minutes but the LHR flight is usually a bit early so all should be OK just follow the signs for departures if you are not met (but I think you will given the short time, there will be a number of CX uniformed staff holding up flight number/name cards). I used to be a regular through HK to Auckland and used to try and fit in a stopover in one of the directions.

I had a 1.5 hour layover in HK going to Manila from London on Cathay. It was tight, and we arrived late. The cabin crew spoke to me and some other connecting passengers while we were in the air, and there was a member of staff on the door as we landed. We were escorted through the airport, skipping the queues, and made the connecting flight.

I only had a carry on bag, so it worked out. I suspect if I’d had checked luggage that would have followed along later on a different flight!

An oldish thread, but it looks like they are quite used to working with short connections,
