Hi Holiday in Agadir next month and wondering if Euros are sensible to take. I’m going all inclusive but will probably doing the tourist traps and like to pay cash. Local currency of Dirhams recommended on the official website . A trip to Turkey last year showed Euro’s more welcome than local currency and wondered if Morocco might be the same. Any recent travellers experience welcome. Cheers.

"Moroccan remains a cash economy although you can use credit cards for more expensive purchases in some shops.

Never buy Moroccan dirhams (MAD) outside of Morocco (you are technically outside Morocco until you pass through customs at the airport) because exchange rates are poor. Once you are inside the country, rates are the same anywhere on any given day. You can withdraw cash locally from ATMs or exchange cash (GBP, Euros & US $) at banks or a bureau de change."

I arrived back from a week in Agadir on Saturday.

Just take money out an ATM, there's loads of them and you'll get a better price buying in dirhams than euros.

Also - the cablecar is great, the souk is insane, the medina is great. Definitely get the spring rolls in the souk if you can find them.

Agadir is rather different today than a few years ago. The bars and clubs around the marina are nearly all gone. Replaced with coffee bars.

Le Mauresque is worth going to for dinner, but takes cards so no need for cash unless doing the souks etc..

At the airport they sell sim cards for 10euros. Gives you 10gb (iirc) of data. As Morocco sits outside a lot of the roaming areas this is good value. (be careful not to lose your old one, as I did!)

So worth taking an old or spare phone and using that for social media, emails etc...
