Cruise and 17 year old
Discussion
Hoping for positive replies here, as it's booked
The in-laws have decided that they want to get the family together and take everyone on a cruise. Very generous and in a few months after not a little debate, we are off to the fjords with P & O.
Our 17-year-old takes after her mother, and as such believes she is an adult. She is used to being fairly independent, and some of the blurb confuses me. Lots of stuff refers to under 17's, eg drinks packages, teen areas, but lots of stuff see's adults as 18.
Has anyone been on board and can advise what to expect?

Sorry, but P&O isn't the best cruise line for 17 year old re things for them to do. No water slides, no wave rider etc..
She'll be able to do the kids club thing, so hopefully there'll be some others there her age.
Casino staff regularly ask young people their age, have to be 18 to be in there, cant even watch mum/dad chuck money away in there.
Hope she enjoys it, but if not go royal caribbean, celebrity, or Ncl next time.

Cheers. Options were limited by family choices, budgets, dates and leaving it too late to book.. She's got a couple of cousins of similar age, although they are boys and until recently had not seen each other for years. I think she will be bored, but who knows!
Not on P&O, but on Cunard (also a Carnival brand) I've seen bar staff ID passengers who they think are under age.
It's a difficult age. The 'kids' clubs are pretty good with games consoles etc.
Edit - looks like you can get beer / wine / cider with a meal - 'It is prohibited to attempt to purchase alcohol for those under 18 in the bars and shops on board, although 16 and 17 year olds may be bought modest amounts of beer, cider or wine to drink with a meal in the restaurants when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.' https://www.pocruises.com/short-breaks/code-of-con...

Leave her at home, she'll be fine.
I virtually burnt my mum and dad's house down in a chip pan fire when they left me alone at home aged 17 whist they went on a QE2 cruise.....My sister was just saying today her hubby has booked a cruise for August for him, her and their daughter. Their daughter will be 15 and is having a mental breakdown at the thought there's no wifi on board. This is someone who posts IG ste at 4am.

No but they were When they were due home I went out to the pub and left a note saying "As you can see there has been a slight accident"
The kitchen was completely gutted and every room in the house was affected by black smoke.
TIP. Never throw a bowl of water on a chip pan fire.

It’s probably why he booked it. Perhaps he’s trying to get her to engage with the real world? My sister was just saying today her hubby has booked a cruise for August for him, her and their daughter. What time of year?
If she wants a few drinks will be you going to the bar to get 'em and I'd advise a drink that doesn't flat out look alcoholic i.e. she's not sat there with a pint of ale
Hopefully you're going in school holidays and there's a decent chance they'll be similar people her age being dragged along in a similar scenario etc.
