Anyone holiday between Xmas & NY ?
Discussion
My wife’s new job see’s her having to retain holiday leave to take between Xmas & NY, previously she’s not had to do this and see’s it as a disadvantage, forced to take holidays she wouldn’t normally take.
Trying to put a positive spin on a situation I’ve thought why don’t we try and get away during that period - extra holiday.
Just wondered does anyone travel on holiday during this time & have any pointers?
From initial observations it seems quite a bit more expensive than other times of the year, probably to be expected, booking separately as pricey as a package, & canaries seems to be the obvious place to go.
We would be looking to leave 26th and return before NY, 5-6days. Family of five so not looking for any Maldives type honeymoon destination etc
Is it business as usual in holiday resorts at this time, places to eat etc still open as a lot of the deals are self catering ?
Is there anywhere else to consider to go?
Any other pointers ?

Chances are there'll be some threat of strikes at some point. Happens every year. Media love to pick up on travel disruption over that period but it's normally a storm in a teacup.
You'll certainly pay a premium.
A lot of clients we book tend to travel over that time of year habitually so are well used to needing to book early, understand it'll be busy and for some of our most popular hotels, unless you've stayed with them previously over that time of year - they won't even let you book!
As long as you're mindful of the above, sure you'll have a great time.

My wife and I went to Venice between Xmas and New Year, last year. Not the most obvious of destinations, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. The main touristy areas were busy, but the queues were 10mins max for the popular spots. And wandering off the beaten track meant that we explored most of Venice where is was nice and quiet. Majority of places were open, and it was only the small local shops & cafes that were shut for a few days. Got a really good package deal through EasyJet - flights plus 5nights in a nice hotel in the centre with breakfast, for £1000 all in.
