Hi all, I am free from 10am to 1pm on Tuesday in the West End of London and thought I'd canvass opinion on here as to interesting things to do to kill the time - I was originally thinking museums or art galleries, but would welcome any suggestions? smile

A little bit outside the West End but see if you can book a visit to the Cabinet War Rooms. Marvellous.

Just go for a walk, around Mayfair and Soho, down little streets you've never been down before.

Ooh, yes. You could see Farm House, Farm Street W1. A Tudor farmhouse in Mayfair! So many things to see on foot.

Yeah, this really.

Soho, Piccadilly, Bond Street, Burlington Arcade, Jermyn Street. Pop into Fortnum's to pick up something nice.

Grab a coffee somewhere nice and just people watch, the time will soon fly by. smile

Best place for a coffee and people watch is Balans on Old Compton St, on the corner of Greek St I think. You see some eye opening sights sat outside having a drink. I once saw a a very tall woman, wearing a leather motorcycle jacket, but completely naked from the waist down, bar a pair motorcycle boots. And no one batted an eyelid.

I'm always amazed by Soho Primary School on Gt Windmill St. What a cool place to go to school. The kids seem to be 90% Chinese heritage, no doubt the kids of those living in China Town.

Point of pedantry, Jermyn St is SW1, so outside the West End (by a whisker)

Is it absolutely necessary to stay there for three hours as I would be limiting my exposure to London as much as physically possible.

Park lane is always good for spotting cars.

The national gallery can be breatgtaking.
Or, as others have said just...walk!

(And post your photos of cool car spots in the appropriate forum!!)

Shame. London’s a bit quiet on a Tuesday. frown

Balans is a good spot to people watch, as is Bonds on Dering St as lots of people use it the road as a way to avoid walking down Oxford St. I’ve spent more afternoons in there than I can even remember.

Me too. And I go with the suggestion to wander around rather than spend too long indoors and Tuesday has a really nice weather forecast for this time or year. So unless walking is a problem, St James's Park, Soho, Seven Dials, Covent Garden etc. And don't forget south of the river. From Tower Bridge to Westminster Bridge is nothing like it used to be. Actually, if I was going to make one suggestion it would be to go south. But I appreciate the starting point for all this might not make that handy.

If he's in the West End, he may not have time to go South which is a shame as walking across say Waterloo or London Bridge is fantastic.

Been doing a fair bit of walking round there over the last few months and remember saying to my mrs how mindblowing it must be for somebody coming to London for the first time and just seeing the scale of it from that perspective. cool

OP, let us know what you got up to. smile

I have walked past the end of Farm Street so many times and had no idea that house was there! On streetview there is a white Huracan and an old Silver Shadow parked outside, its like a snapshot of what I love about that area of London. Shame i'll never have the money to buy a mews house cry

Anyway, I must second the above opinions of just going for a walk around that area, just pick a street and go. Hopefully the weather will be good and you can sit outside with a coffee somewhere enroute.
