We are heading to Berlin for 3 nights at the end of next month for my belated 40th birthday present.
I've seen you can buy a Berlin WelcomeCard for 40 Euros which gives you free travel on all public transport, plus discounted entry to various attractions. Does anyone with experience know if this is worth purchasing? We will need to get from the airport to the hotel in central Berlin, and I also want to go on a tour of the old Tempelhof airport. Other than that I'm not really sure on the cost of public transport and how much it needs to be using versus walking. A quick look at a rail planner suggests about 3.80 Euros for the journey from the airport to the hotel.
We will probably visit all of the main attractions, but any tips on interesting things to see would be great.

Berlin airport is great. Its large but fairly easy to find the integrated train station
Plenty of trains head in and through berlin.
Just watch your journey on Google maps to gauge where you are.
Depends on your age and fitness but berlin is easy to get around, even more so if you use the electric bike and scooters.
We were going all over and it's only about 20mins on a scooter from one side of the city to the other.
Once we got more confident we used the scooters to go out of the centre.
Trains are also frequent
Personally I'd save the money, download the scooter apps and wizz around like the kids do.
The aquarium unfortunately has collapsed.
But all the standard tourist attractions are good.
Book the Reichstag in Advance as they do security checks.
More unusual
Tempodrom may have music events on, they host big name artists.
Underneath it is a liquidrom which is a funky spa
Ice bar is rubbish and poor value for money
Also plenty of kinky clubs if you want some alternative fun

Can't believe no one has suggested here:

It's a 30 min (?) train journey and in a 'normal' part of the city but well worth it.
Free to get in and highlight of my trip (but not for rest of the family )
Not 'enjoyable' but recommended is Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp.
Again a train and bus journey but definitely worth it.
We also did the normal tourist sites in the city.
Definitely a city I will return to in the near future.

That was recommended in another thread - I visited in August 2022 and it's brilliant, that's it's free is a bonus! Handy to tie in with the Tempelhof visit too.https://remise.de/berlin

For me though the highlight was the technology museum, even though it leaves you with the impression that no other country ever developed anything, ever! In the aircraft section, loads of German aircraft and engines fully catalogued, displayed and described. Forlorn in the corner was the most famous WW2 engine of them all; a Merlin sitting in a crate unrestored and unloved with not even a label to tell you what it is!
Good city to visit and a great transport system. Helles gets a bit boring after a while though!
We found the Welcome Card worth it as we pounded that attractions so the discounted entry to attractions was worth it and also the ease of getting around by public transport. We were on and off buses, tubes and local rail all day and it just makes life easier to have a pass.
If I remember correctly, you have to validate your pass first using a machine on the bus or station and then your good to go. No ticket barriers at stations but Berlin ticket inspectors are all seemingly ex-SAS and take zero crap from fare evaders.
Berlin is a fabulous city and has a cool vibe going for it at the moment and surprisingly is not that expensive compared to say, London or Paris.
You’ll have a great time!

One of my favourite places-try the base flying from the roof of the Radisson Park Inn at Alexanderplatz!!
I’m going back to Berlin in May and going to give it a go
I always get a welcome card-the trams are great to just hop on and off-will save you loads of walking!
The s-bahn trains are brilliant to get around the city too.
Make sure you go to the technology museum-it’s fantastic.
Go for a cocktail or two in the fernsehturm-go in the evening when there are hardly any queues.expensive but what a view.
