Has anyone been here (or elsewhere in the Bahamas) and have any recommendations in things to do / see on Paradise Island or Nassau?

We visited Atlantis while staying at Cabbage Beach.

It feels like a chunk of the USA has been extracted and plonked in the Bahamas. There's a mall with shops and restaurants and a casino and cinema. The water park is great and the aquarium is outstanding.

Other than that, we spent pretty much the whole holiday in the pool or on the beach - I think it's that kind of place.

I've been there a couple of times, albeit it some years ago.

It's a big, American style resort hotel complex. Entertaining enough if you like that kind of thing and, has been said, the aquarium is spectatular. I think it costs now, although it was free when I went, which shows how long ago that was.

Other than that, it's a Caribbean island, with the kind of things you'd expect, so plenty of water based activities, like snorkelling/diving, swimming with dolphins. I don't remember too much about Nassau, other than there being a big market, and a Marks & Spencer's.

Thanks both, that sounds pretty much in line with what I was expecting for the area

We have been to the Bahamas getting on for 10 times or more.
Atlantis is your usual big hotel catered to Americans, water park was good.
Bahamar is new and likely overtaken it.
We aren’t fans of Nassau tbh cruise ships Americans usual Caribbean jewellery stores.

I would recommend doing a night or two there and using it as a jump off to one of the outer islands.
Our favourite is Exuma, quite rustic although there is an AI sandals there, you won’t find any high rises or chains, amazing empty beaches, you can hire a boat and explore the calm harbour area. Beach bar and Sunday pig roast.
See the wild turtles at hoopers bay, feed wild sting rays at chat n chill, take a day trip to see the swimming pigs, nurse sharks, iguanas and snorkel thunderball grotto.

Eleuthera is quiet and has a bit to explore or the more upscale harbour island.

Abaco and elbow cay/green turtle cay/great iguana cay are good for hiring a boat and spending all day out on the water over a larger area, for very expensive luxury look up bakers bay.

Cat island is very laid back and quiet.

^ this.

Atlantis is a hotel where people visit as a tourist attraction - it seems like visiting someone’s holiday location. The aquarium is amazing.

Lots of yanks in the Bahamas. It seemed like a place to go to hear about how much money rich people had who lived there….lots of people pointing out famous peoples houses or boats and telling you how much they paid for them.

Thanks both, and particularly JDiz for the alternative options.

Sounds like I'll be heading to the aquarium. As it's a work trip accommodation is provided so I don't have the option to stay at one of the outer islands unfortunately but I'll have to see if I can find a way to get a day trip to Exuma from the sound of it.

There is a pretty decent submarine trip that runs from near there...lots to see. It is'tt claustraphobic and we got to see some sharks and reef.

Plenty of fishing charters too, if you like that kind of thing.

Not been for 10 years, but - the aquarium is spectacular, don't miss it.

Exumas are fabulous. The pigs are famous these days - check on youtube.

Big game fishing is on offer, might be easy to tuck into your schedule.

Most of Nassau is decidedly not a glamorous place.
