We have a few days planned in Barcelona, for a wedding anniversary, later this year.
I appreciate it will be fairly warm - any suggestions for places to visit, museums, restaurants etc (and also places to avoid!)?
Thanks

The big church, familia thingy.
Ramblas plus side streets / big food market
Port area / cable car
F1 track... ahem.
The beach
Shopping in the mall to get out of the heat (grand villa or something I forget the name, villa 2)
Look round the fancy architecture in the north of the city.
Visit the old fort (free on the first sunday of the month)
Various art museums
Another big church (you will need car to get there) on the hill overlooking the entire city.

The open top bus tour is worth doing IMO, you can use it to get to places and it's nice to sit down for a bit and get driven around the city.

Beware of pickpockets and don't take an expensive watch.

It will be HOT in July.

Restaurant - Els 4Gats

Els Quatre Gats (Catalan for 'The Four Cats') is a café in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain that famously became a popular meeting place for famous artists throughout the modernist period in Catalonia, known as Modernisme. The café opened on 12 June 1897 in the famous Casa Martí, and served as a hostel, bar and cabaret until it eventually became a central meeting point for Barcelona’s most prominent modernist figures, such as Antoni Gaudi, Pablo Picasso and Ramon Casas i Carbó. The bar closed due to financial difficulties in June 1903, but was reopened and eventually restored to its original condition in 1989.

My Spanish is non-existent, so the website isn’t that helpful, but the pictures look great. I can’t book for July, yet but will keep an eye out in a few months.

I only looked at this thread to see how many posts it would take before someone mentioned pickpockets.

As predicted, it didn’t take long.

This would be one to book in advance if you plan to do a tour..

Off the beaten track, the Eixample area has some very good bars and restaurants.

Your man who designed and built La Sagrada Familia used to frequent there when it originally opened.

If you like the architecture then the park Gaudi designed (Park Guelle (?)) is worth a visit and has good views over the city. Book in advance.

The houses he designed are interesting too, and many are open to the public if you google it.

For the slightly less high brow customer, there is a sex museum down Las Ramblas, I suggest having a couple of drinks before going in to add to the amusement. hehe

We walked it wink
Utterly bonkers place, a steady hours walk and you’ll see lots of random stuff on the way.

The last half mile, the steep bit is on a funicular railway, and the views are well worth it.

Another one worth doing is going up the Columbus monument, it’s not obvious from the outside but there’s a lift to the top, and you can feel it sway eek

Hi

If you PM me your email I will forward the excellent email that @Sheetmaself sent me when I went in October last year. Great guide.

My best bit of advice is just walk, away from the beaten track and find little bars and restaurants. Fabulous city.

Apparently that’s an unfair comment or at least somewhat of an exaggeration…?!

However, we would be careful, having been made aware of the potential risks.
