10th Wedding anniversary this year and by some stroke of luck we've managed to parcel the children off for two whole nights!

We'd love to grab the opportunity to go somewhere new - preferably overseas... but where?

Trying to do somewhere new which removes quite alot of the typical locations.... so far the following have sprung to mind but really looking for other suggestions... also a list of where we've been previously.

Switzerland - very expensive, negative feedback on Geneva - what other location?
Bulgaria - Sofia - not sure what it's like as a couples destination... and be very hot early July...
Estonia - Tallin? No idea what it's like in July?
Norway / Sweden / Denmark - not been to any of these and wouldn't know where to target in the summer... pls 23 hours of daylight & no options for wintery stuff...
Prague?
Slovenia - any nice couples type resorts for a couple of nights?
Dubai - is a two night break really feasible?
Iceland - again wrong time of the year - think we'd rather do a winter visit?

Already been to the usuals and don't really want to do somewhere we've already been...

Morocco / Spain / Portugal / Italy / France / Germany / Austria etc most of the other eastern blocs have also been visited.

Out of that list I’d pick Tallinn. I was there last year and it was lovely. If you’re there longer than a couple of days you could tie it in with a visit to Helsinki too as there’s a ferry which takes a couple of hours.

Looking at a trip in May and Tallinn along with Vilnius are options. It seems the Baltic states have been completely shafted by the war in Ukraine and are facing much higher inflation than we are. From what I have seen Tallinn is now very expensive and Vilnius is slightly cheaper than the UK.

I went to Tirana, Albania which is a great city and extremely cheap. 100% recommended for a 2 night break.

If your considering Sofia then add Plovdiv as a destination.

We did Albania last year - really enjoyed it actually.

Tallinn is definitely an option, Lake Bled is also looking attractive in Slovenia.

That was going to be my recommendation when you mentioned Slovenia. I went last year and really enjoyed it. Stay at Villa Bled, Tito's old gaff, it's really nice and has a beautiful view over the lake.

If I was to open this up a bit more...

Short haul destination... Adults only... Nice hotel sea views, spa... That sorta thing...

Budget upto £300 a night on accomodation? If that's going to be enough...

Depends on what you want to do. If it's good food and drink, I would be aiming for San Sebastian or Valencia. Very different parts of Spain. Stockholm, Copenhagen, Berlin or even Madrid would be on my list. I know those are some countries you don't want to visit. Montenegro, Luxembourg, Andorra, Wroclaw, Gdansk, Krakow....

Dubai in July, lol!

Shame Italy is out, Florence, for me at least, really is the perfect short break albeit thinking about it the weather can sometimes rival Dubai at that time of year!

Talinn is ok but I’d say Stockholm out of the Scandis, and Budapest of the former eastern bloc. Both great cities in different ways, lots to do and picturesque with it.

For Bled you’ll need to hire a car but it’s only an hour from Ljubljana. Any reason to avoid the capital itself? I’ll be there for a few days in early march if you want a review.

My left field recco would be Rovinj in Croatia. Really nice place, great to look at but not busy.

2hr drive from Ljubljana or 3 from Venice, there’s an airport in Pula about half hour away but doubt any uk airlines fly there. The maistra select island hotel meets your spec, should be in budget and is on its own island off the marina. The grand hotel is out of budget but has a great restaurant and a bar with a full view of the city, perfect for sundowners.

A little bit more thought into this..

Ie matching flights with the dates we have available and no massive airport journeys leaves us with very few options.

Gerona is a good match... Which opens up the Costa Brava..

Nice hotel... Quiet / small town / village... No package hols? Coastal

Any suggestions?

Costa Brava in July. Finding somewhere quiet might be a challenge.

Yup afraid so....

More than willing to listen to alternatives if they fly from EMA / BHX lunchtime on a Friday and return Sunday evening....
