Our kids will 4 and 7 come next December so we’ve decided to book a trip to Lapland for December 2023.

Fancy doing 3 or 4 nights rather than a day trip. There’s more choice of location than I expected but suspect they all offer much of the same thing? The only family we know that have done an over night trip recommended staying in a hotel instead of lodges that way you’re not having to put on and take of your cold weather gear constantly which makes sense.

It’s not a priority but somewhere that offers some skiing would be a bonus.

Any hints/tips would be appreciated-we’d fly from Newcastle ideally but Glasgow/Edinburgh/Manchester are all a similar distance for us.

Identical age to ours and also considering lapland this year.... but also thinking about pushing it out one final year to make them 8 & 5.

I think at that age the youngest has a bigger chance of remembering it too.

Friends of ours went last year with a four year old and said the cold was a real problem for her.

I got a quote from Canterbury Travel,3 nights departing 14th Dec from Manc for the 4 of us staying in Luosto - the cheapest hotel was the Luostotunturi Hotel.

Full board all activities included - snowmobiles, reindeer experience, husky run, see santa and snow games etc...... £7100

A holiday page I follow on Facebook was advertising similar dates - dep 15th Dec 3 nights again, 2 adults / 2 children @ £5599 - again full board & all activities included but this one was at Enontekio at the Davii Artic Hotel.

I guess my question - as long as you don't mind me butting in is where is the 'best' place to go see Santa & visit lapland - or are they all much of a muchness.... and if so - why a £1500 price gap between what look to be two very similar trips?

No worries jumping on-the threads I could find were fairly old hence a new one.

I'm going to weigh up DIY as for me 4K for accommodation and flights for room only is my max or 5-6K for HB or FB.

I'll also have to have a good check on my insurance policy-my main worry is if the kids come down with something that means they can't travel-on the run up to Christmas this year one had chicken pox and the other tonsillitis!

I've skied for years and for the price of what some of these are looking could easily do a 'snowy Christmasy' trip biggrin

Annoyingly our daughter (6) has a best friend with an older sibling that has already started telling her that santa isn't real bangheadflamesnono

I really though we'd get another 3 or 4 Christmases.......
