Mrs L and I need a break from the norm. Going somewhere else for a jolly Christmas might be a bit too daydreamy - but have PHers had a good experience somewhere that they could recommend?

We did try this a few years ago. It wasn't a success. We knew the establishment and had been very impressed before - but the whole package was lacking. This place was about 100 rooms, so a mixture of couples and families. But at the C.eve black tie dinner, C day and B day, we were shown to our table-for-two and left to get on with it. No-one was acting as host, organising games or treasure hunts. And the turkey wasn't very good either. Perhaps couples that go away for Christmas are by nature, unsociable gits. getmecoat

Contrast that with experiences we have had staying at French Chambres d'hotes in summers past. Evening meal if you would like, fixed menu, everyone eats at the same time round one table - we have had some very pleasant evenings.

Perhaps a smaller place would be better. Is there such a place that does Christmas well?
