Campervan holiday in/around Switzerland

Looking at a campervan holiday in the spring. Predominantly centred on Switzerland but not averse to venturing into France/Germany/Austria and Italy if we fancy it.
Assumed Switzerland would be expensive for both flights and hire so have been looking at the likes of Milan/Munich/Lyon for cheap flights and picking up the camper from the airport.
It seems a bit of a mine field so wondered if anyone had done similar. Ideally (essential really) is to be able to pick up and drop off from the airport, I don't fancy carting 2 kids and luggage to someone's house on the outskirts of Milan in the dark only to find the camper doesn't even exist.
