I know this was meant to be happening a while ago but Covid delayed it somewhat, but this is good news:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-63975270

The endless hassle of putting 100ml liquids in a clear plastic bag, and separating out laptops, tablets, etc. onto a separate tray used to wind me up so much. Mostly because my wife would always forget and we'd end up doing the walk of shame to have the bag opened by security.

You also had to go out an purposely buy small toothpaste or deodorant if you travelled hand baggage only, so anything that just means I can dump my normal stuff into a case/bag and just lump that through security is most welcome.

Glad to hear it, I'd forgotten about this tbh. Mind you, its only really useful if the airport you're returning also scraps the 100ml rule...

Good stuff.

This is how it normally goes with the Mrs.

"Have you taken all your creams/liquids out?"
"Yeah I have"
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah positive"
"So you don't have anything over the limit?"
"Yeah positive, just shut up and stop asking me"

Gets pulled over by security as handbag is pinged by x-ray scanner.

"What's this then."

"FFS, asked you a million times to double check and you say you don't but then we get pulled up"

"I forgot, just shut up."

Now I have to go and wait at the back of the line with a women's handbag while it's scanned again while she goes off to the gate as her or one of the kids needs a piss.

Great start to our holidays.

These have already gone from a number of airports outside the UK. Not had to take anything out my bag flying back from Geneva for the last 2 years (provided you know which queue to join for the new machines).

There's 1 in London City airport too. Really good if you get that line when going through (they have a line with the old school scanner too).

Maybe it will also mean that the shops after security will make their prices more reasonable as it isn't quite such a captive market!

In the meantime you can do a Boots online order for collection airside of any liquid items you need. You don’t have to pay the airport prices.

I always thought it was an incredibly stipid rule. Especially as you could buy larger than 100ml bottles after security.

.... But they have control over what the shops bring in......

Can't wait. Currently away for the winter and have to check in two overhead bags due to sun lotion bottles. No great hardship mind you. Saying that, Mrs got chastised for having too large a clear plastic bag with too many bottles at Heathrow, huffed and passed me half of them :-)

Surely easier to buy it there. In Eurospar, for example, they do an own brand spray bottle Factor 50 for under 7 Euros.

In Thailand?!? :-) sun lotion here is utterly mad, especially on islands. We bring a st load of once a day f25. Some cheap brand my Mrs discovered. Calypso. Super easy to put on and works a charm. When you are doing this daily for most of two months it matters :-) pricing of any sun tan products here is insane, and we've always regretted it when we have forgotten to bring it.
